And I was the guy who got a GD-ROM to read with a standard portable CD player laser mechanism. This proves that it isn't the laser that's different, only the control of the laser (and its stepping motor). The data could be encrypted, but the pits and lands are most-likely the same size. Of course, ...

Normal resistors will work, but if it overloads again, it could be bad. I wouldn't worry about it too much, though. >= ) It's the F1 resistor. I (think) I had it overload again with the regular 10 Ohm resistor that I put in there. I was using an Astropad and a keyboard woth the web browser (exactly...

PS/2 Adapter question

This may be a dumb question, but as they say, "There are no dumb questions, only dumb people" or something like that.... Is it possible to take a PS/2-to-DC adapter, plug a USB-toPS/2 adapter (like the ones that come with USB mice. I have about 3 of them) into it and then plug a USB device...

I have your solution, Gutzman. RadioShack has a new part in stock with a MCD of 2600, versus the 300 that you have now. It's part number 276-316 and costs $3.99. >= ) It's rated at 20ma and 3.7v(typical)/4.5v(max). Perfect for the Dreamcast. >= ) Good luck! I got the 2600 MCD blue LED and it seems ...

I've been using Nero for awhile now, and I'm pretty sure you can configure Nero to read the CD image, whatever the format, and save it again in NRG format. If not you could always use ISOBuster to extract the BIN, then use WinISO to convert the BIN to an ISO. Then have Nero read the ISO and save it...

NRG files

I'm currently writing a program that directly reads a CD, then writes the data to a file, so what you end up with is nothing but a file with all the bytes on a CD. The idea is to try to backup CDs that other programs cant copy. I was wondering if anyone knew of a program to convert this to an NRG fi...

You can get a PS2 to Dreamcast converter from Lik-Sang, but it's 15 dollars, plus the cost of the keyboard. I got the cheap Dreamcast keyboard from Funco Land for 10 dollars and I didn't have to wait for it in the mail.

Thanks for the info. Since it still works, it's not THAT high a priority, but I would like to find a suitable replacement maybe this weekend. What kind of fan should I get?

It works fine, it's just that I can't hear the fan, I can't feel any air blowing out of the vent and yesterday when I took the case off, the guts were hot (more so than usual) and when I turned it on, the fan wouldn't spin.

Replacing The Fan

I think the fan on my Dreamcast died and I need to know where to get a new one. I was thinking that a CPU fan might work, but I don't know how much power the Dreamcast sends to the fan, or if it's wired the same way. If a CPU fan wouldn't work, is there any place I can order a real Dreamcast fan?

I was thinking about getting a custom case for my DC, but I don't know anything about them, where to get one, how much they cost, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Blue LED results

The operation was a success and my Dreamcast is resting comfortably. :) If anybody wants to see what a Sega Sports Dreamcast looks like with a blue LED, click the link below: http://cascanning.tripod.com/dcblue.jpg If you don't want to see what it looks like, don't click the link. It doesn't really ...

1. You probably blew the F1 resistor on the controller PCB. This has happened to a number of people, usually when trying to replace the power LED. Check out these threads for more details: http://www.dcemulation.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2890 http://www.dcemulation.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=6307 Ho...

Fixed controller ports

I posted earlier today asking about my controller ports that quit working. I read some other forums and found the answer, so it pays to read the forums berfore posting. :) I also found a post about putting in a blue LED and they gave the part number: 276-316 . Thanks to whoever that was. That LED is...

Blown controller ports

I was using the web browser yesterday, with 3 controllers and a keyboard plugged in. I put in a VMU and that window ppops up that tells you that something was plugged in. Right after I press OK, the window comes back and tells me that there's nothing plugged in and the Dreamcast doesn't respond to a...

I've used Memorex, Maxell, Sony, Some brand I can't remember (they come in 5 packs, each of them a different color, red, blue, green, yellow and I think purple) and the generic brand from Staples ($15.00 for a spindle of 50) and they all work equally well.
