Re: Tv-loution

Widescreen better represents the way in which people tend to see. Also, movies have been in widescreen since the advent of the television (in order to make them still desireable) and it makes sense to have displays that can play back movies without wasting a lot of the screen or tossing most of the...

Re: MS Solves RROD Problem Once and for All...

From the original post, it sounded like you were moving the machine while the disc was spinning. If the 360 was stationary, that is truly shitty. It did it when it was completely stationary in either orientation, I was quite literal about the whole not touchin' the friggin thing. We went out of our...

Re: I bought the Fallout Trilogy on PC.

Get Killap's patch for Fallout 2. It fixes like seventy billion bugs and makes a bunch of quests work that didn't before, and also unlocks a number of additional endings that weren't finished.

Re: How long does this generation have left?

From what the MS and Sony guys have said, both expect a 10 year generation. So, that gives us another 5 years or so. 2015ish.

I hope so, as both the PSX/SN/N64 and Cube/PS2/DC/XB gens were too short.

Re: The E3 discussion

To be fair here, the 3DS IS backwards compatible - with DS games.

Nintendo really tried for the more serious gamers this E3, and I give them props for it. Looks to be a good year. And Mario Galaxy 2 is great.

Re: First "Synthetic" DNA Organism Created

The theoretical "high-level language" simply doesn't need to allow you to code for "dangerous" things I fail to see how you could eliminate all possibility of making a dangerous life form while still allowing you to make a new life form at all. What will these new bacteria be capable of if they're ...

Re: First "Synthetic" DNA Organism Created

Again, I'm not sure anything people can come up with would be worse than what nature has already done. Sure we could. Nature is self-limiting. A disease that is overly lethal kills itself off, hence the lack of a worldwide ebola epidemic. But when you're creating something in the lab, and it's so e...

Re: First "Synthetic" DNA Organism Created

You could solve the problem of armageddon-by-home-biotech by having consumer-grade gear not build reproduction into the organism. ....yeah. We're talking about a "consumer grade" version of machines that create artificial life forms. Man that's fucked up. If it really becomes that easy, it's pretty...

Re: Just Watched Super Mario Bro. Film

In todays dollars, it'd probably top 60 million. More importantly though, the budget was stretched due to many practical effects (which, if done well, are usually much cheaper than modern CG), and equally importantly, there are no major actors in it and so forth. When you hear the newest Tom Cruise ...

Re: Just Watched Super Mario Bro. Film

I always wondered what happend to King Koopa suddenly he was retconned out of continuitiy or something and replaced by someone called Bowset? It's just like Princess Toadstool VS Princess Peach (now, full name of Peach Toadstool). Different names for the same character. I believe originally King Ko...

Re: EA makes me LOL

Nobody ever said that playing games online should be free. Like in the PC mold, you have to pay your ISP cash to get on the internet, and then maybe pay a $10 dollar a month fee to connect to a specific game server. Well, that's pretty much only for MMOs. They have far higher costs than the archite...

Re: X-Box Profile Question

So you'd rather play a game that you kill other people? Generally speaking, I would. But, I'm the type that usually roots for the monsters in movies and games, so whatever. Also, it does seem a little silly that they don't let you delete whatever you want from your profile. It never really occurred...

Re: Advice on getting new laptop......

Believe it or not, there's now an Alienware laptop in your price range. The m11x. I hear it's pretty good for the price. http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/23/alienware-m11x-review/ Downside is the screen isn't real high res, and it's a bit small. But, very good battery life, very portable, and pretty ...

Heh, yeah. EA certainly also put out its fair share of crap. Can't argue that.

But the main things I remember are the sports series, Mutant League, the Strike series, General Chaos, King's Bounty, Populous, Rampart, the Road Rash games, and, most importantly, Shaq-Fu.

I remember back in the Genesis days when seeing that weird EA yellow clip thing meant you were probably getting a quality game. Yeah.

Re: Mega Man Movie Released

I haven't watched it yet, but I suspect this suffers from what almost all productions like this suffer, as well as most low budget productions that try to be effects heavy. A few small moments of highlight, with a ton of slow and dull moments padding the runtime to 90+ minutes.

Adobe claims that we are a closed system, and that Flash is open, but in fact the opposite is true. ..yeah, ok. Calling Apple's system open is what I call a "lie". They have total control of software available for the platform. People have whined and groaned about the lack of Flash on the iPhone, b...

Yeah, the original art hails from that shitty period of art where everyone deliberately drew things badly. I think they called it the Dark Ages.
