Re: Apple announces new iPod lineup

Damn, I've got to get one of those Archos players. I wasn't aware of its full capabilities. It sounds sweet. As for the touch-screen Ipod, it may be a tough sell for Ipod fans, because it came to be known as a media-hoarding device; people carry their whole music collections, legal or otherwise, in ...

Re: Mouse Remapping

Hmmm... I had the same problem with the middle button on my mouse, an Intellimouse Explorer 4.0. I thought it was really cool, until I found out that the damn wheel button is too tough to click. And the left button started to crap out. I opened it, exchanged microswitches from the side buttons to th...

Re: Army suicides at highest level in 26 years

Well, remember what Col. Kurtz said in "Apocalypse Now", that an army of "tourists" and diletanttes" could not be expected to perform well. He said that 1 year tours (this was in the time of the draft) were useless, soldiers were just counting the days, like prisoners. I guess this also applies to v...

Re: New PC advice

Well, those LG DVD burners are really nice. I just upgraded from a 1st gen. DVD burner to one of those, and it works like a charm. They're really fast, and moderately silent.

Re: osx theme on wondows xp

Well, I think flyakite is pretty much the best mac theme for XP, in my opinion. People sometimes mistake it for OSX86 installs. It's pretty much bug-free, when the instructions are correctly followed.

It's pretty neat, but I really don't use it long-term.

I hear ya... but how can you say you're a bum, if you're finishing your education? It's anxiety, I know. I've been there. Maybe it's all those changes you mentioned. They might make you feel life's unstable, and you never know when the shit's gonna hit the fan. You're just looking for some semblance...

Man, that's tough. I feel for you. Whenever I stop smoking, I get that lousy feeling, like being hungover. My neck hurts, I'm sweaty, and I'm in a REAL bad mood. I feel ashamed of looking around for a cigarette butt, just to get one puff... like a junkie. My motivation to quit is financial, too. I f...

A friend's brother has the same issue... he bought a brand new 42" Sony plasma display, but the salesman told him it was a TV, complete with tuner. He's not tech-savvy at all, so he's really pissed off about it. I told him it's no big deal, he can switch to digital cable, or satellite TV... He insis...

I watched a few pieces of it, and it felt like a Nickelodeon show. Cheap shots, obvious jokes, and high school humor all around. You're not supposed to just make fun of people, you have to make fun of their actions, and what they say. Just making fun of people is a way of masking one's own insecurit...

He's just obsessed with the word, at the moment, he thinks it's cool. He feels like a big man saying those words. It happened to me, and most probably it happened to you too, at his age. If he says that at the dinner table, THEN it's a problem.

She did look really hot in the "Oops..." video, cameltoe and all. She actually looked classy... :o

My guess is, the trailer-trash roots are showing; I guess you can really never run away from that.

Then, he told me he loaned them to ANO...

Don't sweat it. Get one of those kits that include a shampoo, some lotion, and a fine tooth comb. Lice won't live for long out of hair. That kit should work. It itches like hell, though, at least it did for me when I was a kid. Follow the instructions, and you're good to go. Make everyone in your ho...

I might recommend Foxconn motherboards. The ones with Nvidia chipsets, and socket AM2 for AMD processors. They have a GeForce 6100 which works very well, even for some old games, and runs Vista Aero smoothly. I think one of those claims to have DVI and component output via a header, but they say the...

There are some Samsung models, which are CRT-based, at a nice price. They use a side-mounted barrel, so they are very slim. People swear by their image quality, since they beat LCDs' crappy color reproduction. And the contrast looks good. Samsung claims their CRT HDTVs hold 40% of the HDTV market. T...

Looks like AMD systems are more forgiving when it comes to dual channel. I used to run a 512 and a 256 module, different speeds, different brands, and they ran OK.

I noticed a big improvement in system response, a lot quicker, but almost no difference when running software.

I think there's a lesson in all of this: don't tie your OS too much to the hardware. I used to champion PalmOS, and sneer at my PocketPC friends... years later, I was ashamed of using my Palm in front of them... Regarding MacOS, they could never really make the full jump to take advantage of the Pow...
