While it is true that GPL infects code, that doesn't mean that the parts Peter, Per and Marcus legally has to release is useful to anyone else. Most of the interesting code is either in their libronin library that DreamSNES uses or in the custom tools used to build DreamSNES. I guess they would be w...

The image files for DreamSNES are generated by a custom tool written in Pike. If you know Pike it should be fairly easy to convert to/from these PVR files.

A quick comment to UmamaBinRotten: No, most of the time spent over the last year was in rewriting the core in assembler. The mentioned optimizations are some extra bonuses in the new assembler core. The effect will probably be very different in different games, given the nature of these optimizations.

I know that. What I meant was that the reason for fancy screensavers and MP3 players is to have fun while developing. It is not likely that they are going to drop "fun" stuff in trade for optimizations.

I don't think Peter Bortas and Marcus Comstedt would like to spend all their time profiling assembler code. It is after all not their job to make DreamSNES, but a hobby.

From the DreamSNES CVS repository (which isn't public, so you need not ask how to gain access to it).

Remember that there are different video circuits in Dreamcasts with red logo and Dreamcasts with blue logos. Before you compare parameters like frequency and TV-brand you should make sure that the one you're talking to has the same kind of Dreamcast.

From the README file in the dreamsnes source tree: A file (ROMS.LST) can optionally be added to the same directory as the games on the cd to speed up the rom scan. The game names will then be taken from the file instead of scanning the rom header. If used, the games must be listed on separate lines ...

The Pike installer was a bit rushed (as were a few other things), since they decided that they _should_ release 0.9.5 on valentine. Peter Bortas told me today that he didn't succeed in using the installer without doing a lot of magic stuff (Marcus Comstedt made the installer). Peter also told me tha...
