Ian Micheal, did games you test have any sort of frameskipping on? Does anyone know if this will ever be up to an enjoyably playable speed? How much optimising can be done with a port of this nature? Great work so far though, really, really nice.

You might want try Freevo (http://www.freevo.org). You'll need more than 350Mhz to run a nice desktop. I have a 400Mhz with 256MB RAM running Debian with Fluxbox and it is pretty slow. EDIT: I should add that Freevo isn't a distro. You might (if you have much experience with Linux) try Debian or Gen...

Well, I just reinstalled Mandrake, becuase I couldn't stand GNOME, and trying to install KDE from GNOME kept giving me errors. Anyway.. I noticed something. With GNOME, my audio sounds like fricken crap. I then boot into KDE, and it sounds great. What's up with that? If I recall right, you have to ...

KDE in OS X

Fink is a program that assists installing UNIX software in OS X. Don't bother with OpenOffice.org in OS X anyway, it sucks really hard. Get Abiword and Gnumeric or KOffice from Fink.

Why not, dare I say it, Gentoo or Debian PPC? Why use them? Why not? It seems you are looking for a UNIX derivative and on Mac they seem like more viable options. BSD and Linux are both pretty similar to work with for the end user in terms of basic commands installed etc. If you're ditching Slackin...

Nice to see some Mac users and GNOMErs among the standard Windows fare.

Apologies for the size, but I can't be fscked shrinking it down and it is only 88Kb.

jaredfogle: Sweet choice of track, resides on my iTunes playlist too!

If it is the one I think, which i'm 99% sure it is - the company behind it wanted to create a full graphical desktop style Linux for PSone.

However with a MIPS r3000, 2MB RAM (?) and a 1 speed CD-ROM drive, we can only assume they were:

a) Extreme optimists
b) Smoking too much crack

"That's one thing I gotta credit the old windows 3.x with, it didn't consume massive amounts of resources. When I upgrade from 9x, I'm going to have to buy more RAM... MS just doesn't care anymore, buy more RAM! Buy more RAM"

Solution: Don't buy more RAM, buy less MS. ;)

Windowmaker does indeed own. I prefer GNOME on a system with power though. "You may want to note that the xserver by itself isnt very pretty it is desktop environments like KDE, GNOME, Ximian etc. that do that." Actually there is no X by itself. It is just the default window manager, TWM (...
