analogy time? imagine you're gonna race around a race track in a car. 1-pass - you have no idea how bumpy the track is, how many corners it has, and you're just gonna drive round it - anything could be ahead of you - wild boars, waterfalls, politicians, all kinds of scary things.. 2-pass - you get t...

you can choose either to re-encode the video, or the audio .. or both. if the audio is set to "direct stream copy"- it will not be re-encoded. if the video is set to "direct stream copy" - it will not be re-encoded. so, if you set them both to this, you are simply copying the file (if you want to cu...

resolution

it's the aspect that's important.. 320x240 is full screen.. and 320x120 would be half the screen.. 352x288 - full screen it's a 4:3 ratio for a full (square) screen if you have a widescreen TV & one of those "stretch" buttons then use a 16:9 resolution.. of if you like watching in widescreen use 16:...

ok...

right... forget your 700kbps... switch on Psychodynamic Modelling to Normal or Strong & go down to 350kbps on the video - do a 2-pass... DivX might bring the average upto more near 450kbps depending on your video - but it'll look good - the psychodynamic modelling gets rid of blockiness - it takes q...

to the guy with the freeze problem - use DCDivX Beta 3!!!

i have vids that play perfect in Beta 3 - but freeze after 30 seconds in Beta 4... if you've got both burnt on CDs - use which ever one works best for each of your vids.. but try beta 3..

yeah - i swear i encoded something with a 400+ width, and it was fine.. i encode at 350kb/s - for some reason, using 2 pass encoding, and psychodynamic modelling (important) on normal, this gets me very nice looking DivX... i've encoded a lot of movies in my time for DcDivX & have found that desynci...

a nice way to look @ two pass...

imagine i handed you a song you'd never seen before written on paper and asked you to sing it or play it immediately... that's 1-pass..

imagine i handed you it - and gave you a while to look over it & read it through & get to know it... that's 2-pass...

that's how i see it anyways...

agreed

Why encode at such High birates ? If you encode at 300, it's really good quality.. couldn't agree more... just upgraded to DivX 5 (even though i'd heard it wasn't worth it) - encoded 3 movies at 350, fitted them all on one CD - quality looked higher than quite a lot of the DivX 4.12 that i'd encode...

DivX - just a lil bit of advice for anyone having encoding probs...

hey! people using VirtualDub - i have a little tip for you here... if you are getting "unknown error -100" in the middle of re-encoding your vids to a DivX format (which i get quite a lot) - make sure you don't have any dodgy codecs installed & taking over you playback - i had "AngelPotion" codecs i...
