Re: Good 3D Open Source engines
=\ Hm. I'm guessing then the only real engine that will work is the Doom engine then?Ayla wrote:Yes, you can use it. I approve.
But it will never run on dreamcast.

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
I'm wondering about whenever I get to 3D modeling and mapping... is there a program in here for that or do I need to download some other program like 3D Max Studio or AutoCAD? I have AutoCAD already... I don't know of any well-developed process. Most Dreamcast homebrew is 2D, with 3D typically bein...

Good 3D Open Source engines
I found one that I think is a keeper guys... again, I'm still learning C++, but while I'm doing so, I'm trying to gather every tool that's necessary to use. I don't want to stick with a Quake or Doom engine... and I realize that I don't know everything that goes into programming a game for Dreamcast...

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
Yeah... come to think of it, after looking at it more.... duh, lol yeah they're propriety code. Someone had told me those engines would work on the Dreamcast... *sigh* Okay, I'm expanding my learning on the basic C++ but as I'm doing so, I'd like some insight to the future if possible... I have the ...

Re: Sonic RPG Demo #3 Completed!
I'm gonna have to take a look at this... Are you porting this to Dreamcast? Would it be easy to do so?

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
Could any Open Source game engines written in C++ and cross-platform work for the Dreamcast development? In general, the engine will need to be ported to Dreamcast. KOS offers some things that make Dreamcast a bit more compatible with code written for PC operating systems, but in general you can't ...

Most Helpful Books?
Hey guys, as I'm venturing into C++ for the first time, I'm glad to say I'm getting the basic idea for it. I'm wondering though out of the many books I've seen, which ones would you recommend that are the most relevant to giving me the idea how to program for the Dreamcast? I'm not sure if there eve...

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
I see... I believe I understand what engines do a lot better now. I guess my next question would be what do you guys think of the following game engines: Torque, Unreal, or Source? I'm looking to use Torque to start off with... Could any Open Source game engines written in C++ and cross-platform wor...

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
and I believe it includes Dreamcast emulators for testing your code on the PC (but don't quote me on that last bit, and keep in mind that an emulator isn't a substitute for the real hardware). I hope that's at least a little bit helpful, and I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will point out any m...

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
1) What are compilers? What are they used for? 2) What are libraries? What are they used for? 3) How are engines different from libraries? Can I use the Torque, Source or Unreal engine to program Dreamcast games? 4) What programs will I need specifically in order to have my workstation ready to sta...

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
Just buy a book; Practical C Programming by O'Reilly. Kinda on that path already, but I was hoping to get some help to get me started off while I wait on obtaining those resources. Hense my questions. I'll try not to ask a question for every little thing, but I've looked around and haven't found an...

Re: Dreamcast Programming (Where To Start)
I thought the title on this thread was rather interseting because I'm in the same boat. Although problem with me is, I'm just now learning C++. I actually like it. I think I'll understand the basics of it pretty soon. There's no rush, so I'm taking my time to learn it, but I'm taking several lessons...

Re: 3D Game Studio to Dreamcast?
Hmm.. okay I see what you mean. My next question: Where does a new developer get started for designing homebrew games? I'm so sorry if this sounds completely n00bish... fact is, I am a n00b, but I'd love to do some research. I've found several options..I'm on the DCISOZONE.com site now downloading t...

Re: 3D Game Studio to Dreamcast?
Well, that's what I'm trying to get my research on... I've been looking up through Google to find some answers but I'm stumped at the moment... if 3D Game Studio can't be ported to work on Dreamcast, what game making programs / engines can? I'm really seeking a run down on some of the basics because...

3D Game Studio to Dreamcast?
Hey guys, this is my first post, hello! I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, please direct me elsewhere if this is or if this... Basically, I'm tapping into game development. I have some original ideas and have always been in love with the Dreamcast. I would love to support the Homebrew scene bu...
