Re: Region Changer 1.5

Is the region changer open source ? For people who have the goal of flashing the HKT-0120 bios (or in my case a patched version of it with mil-cd + region free support) People should know that the HKT-0120 bios actually looks in the flash at 0x0001A000 and if the bit is set to 30 (which creates the ...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

Thanks Mark, can you also send me a legit bios meant to be flashed on the hkt-0120 unit ? (in fact several versions would be better) as I don't want to install the katana sdk on my comp. That way I may manage to figure how to generate a complying hash for the header of the hacked bios.

Re: Region Changer 1.5

Ok I did some tests using the hacked hkt0120 bios and the regions: Bad news here, setting the region value to 00 does indeed change the swirl colour to blue and the region itself HOWEVER the region is NOT PAL, it is an unknown/unset region, thus no cd-r (JUE) will run with the region setting as 00. ...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

I also doubt the hkt-0120 bios wouldn't works with rflash, so you might dot a region changer backup of flash on vmu using chankast, then put int on a cd, use this cd to load in onto the vmu, then load it with region changer (then your DC would be unusable) then you could put the hkt-0120 bios inste...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

Actually it is because ip0000.bin (there have allways been 2 ip.bin files in GD-ROMS, one ip0000.bin located in the low density track (but not repertoried by the track's toc, and thus invisible by the iso9660 fs ) and one in the high density track called ip.bin located at sector 45150 of the GD-ROM...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

Oh ... They put it twice ? ... Maybe because it's a data/data selfboot cd ... I'll test it with both removed. [EDIT] It only worked with Japan ip.bin ... really dunno why though ... Maybe Puch666 modded it so it is a japan bios, because the original bios ( on the hkt-0120 itself ) is region free. I...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

ok I will, still as far as I tested before, the original hkt-0120 bios is region coded to run only japanese games UPDATE: I just looked at your images with an hex editor, they are not properly edited, the IP.BIN appears twice but it is only edited once on the cdi images, the second iteration is stil...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

Can you ask the author if I can have it ? It would save me from hacking it myself. I'll try to get it into a retail dreamcast by replacing the bios chip.

Re: Region Changer 1.5

adding a black swirl for each region is easy, use X for japan (instead of 0), Y for usa (instead of 1) Z for Euro (instead of 2)

Re: Region Changer 1.5

ok, some more news, I couldn't find any region free value for the retail bios and I doubt there is one, thus I conducted more investigation on the HKT-0120 bios. First of all, it is region coded, on my hacked bios (that's half working) it tries to boot multi-region cd-r (JUE) but not a cd-r with onl...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

SWAT just released a new version adding a Free Region setting. Actually he uses the setting I spoke about, however as far as I tested it (in Chankast) it is not region free but only Japan (or usa if set to 9) with a black swirl :/ as the regions just repeat themselves. As I said before : X = Japan ...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

about the odd region that's normal it's because the dc_flash of the hkt-0120 devkit is filled of 0xFF (so there is no region setting on the flash, the region is likely to be set directly in the bios, or maybe the bios reads some dip switch status to set its region acordingly. Have you tried to run a...

Re: Region Changer 1.5

I did not improve much in my bios hacking amptempt (because I didn't have much time) however I think I found the region free value to change in the dreamcast flash. at offset 0x1A000 where you see 00211Dreamcast (PAL flash) if you change the 2 (euro) to 8 or 9 it should get to region free (you will ...

maybe, I just have selfbootable discs atm though :/ I'll try with unscrambled binaries later though. Still odd that it freezes at the sega screen, I might have forgotten to patch something.

I started to hack the HKT0120 bios so it reads cd-r. So far I replaced the following offset values from the retail bios to the hkt0120 bios: 0x0000800 to 0x0000FF0 0x00040F0 to 0x0004D80 and replaced 0x000019A value from FA to EE. As a result the bios (running on chankast) does try to load a cd-r (j...
