Re: VGA Mod for DC

Are you using a tv or a vga monitor?
I did this circuit once and it worked as it should on a pc monitor. If I remember well, in vga mode the signal is progressive.
I think the only time I had black and white was when I connected ntsc composite video on a pal tv (it's been almost 10 years)

Re: Very odd PC problem...

Look for leaked capacitors on the motherboard
see there for informations :

If you've got some bad capacitors, you'll need to have them replaced or to change the motherboard.

Re: Bad Firmware Flash Woes on External HDD

you probably can't do anything more, you'd need to reprogram the flash using a flash programmer since the self programming part must be damaged now. Maybe there's some jtag workaround but only the manufacturer must know of it and you'd need specific hardware to do this. And I assume you can't open t...

It's soldered on the board and it's a 3,6V rechargeable battery. Ask a technician to do it for you.

double check if you didn't short two pins together when you soldered your wires, your modem may be dead now.

Re: Please help! Dream Cast controller port!

do you mean : if you use only one controller it works ok, but if you plug too many it doesn't work and if you keep only one plugged it works again ?
If so, you must have a 10 ohms resistor on the controller board, which is wrong.

well of course it can be useful if your game engine lags because the models you use have too much polygons.

Re: Verifying Power Board Replacement/Rumble pack feel decreaser

if you don't find a near zero fusing resistor, but use a 10 ohms one like lot of tutorials say to do, you'll probably don't feel any rumble anymore. I'll repeat one more time : the original resistor is a fusing resistor. It's value is about 0,4 ohms. I you use a 10 ohms resistor, it should work for ...

there should me emulators you can use to simulate what's happening.
Maybe you've got a watchdog trouble, or the port is configured as input.

don't know if it would work, you'd really better use a regulator from a single battery than what you suggest (a pack will likely drain out before the others and it'll be difficult to keep each battery to it's nominal charge, and it's not garanteed to work well).
But you can try it.

no you can't without a dc-dc converter, the dreamcast will work at 4,8V because it's close enough of 5V but it won't work for 3,7V. And you better use a single battery and a converter that gives you the 3 needed voltages. it seems they feed 5V where 3,3V is needed, whil this may work, it's prone to ...

quite simple, the mini itx board converts a battery voltage to +12 +5 -5 -12 and 3,3V, just ignore the 5V stb and -12V -5V and wire 12 5 and 3,3V to the dreamcast.

What 4,8V cell battery ?

no, adapters quite NEVER work in reverse, because they'd be much more trouble to build (and humans are lazy). Just think for example of a power supply unit, it won't give you 110VAC if you powers the dc part. Same thing for a vga box, it's one way only it converts the dreamcast output to vga, but ca...

well I don't see why you couldn't remove it, desolder it and try it out. If it doesn't work there must be some resistor terminators or jumpers, but you'll be able to fix it.

I think the nomad screen's input is composite video, you should first diagnose exacly what's wrong. First testing the screen with an external video source. and second outputting the console video to a tv set.
I agree with Xylene, the gp32 lcd is probably digitally driven and wouldn't work.

an ohmmeter is used to measure resistance, you find it at radioshack or any electronic shop. (it usually includes a voltmeter and an ampmeter in the same tool). The cheapest are probably worth 15 to 20 usd buy a new controller, if it doesn't work either, it's probably f1 that's burned (it's on the c...

Well if you plug/unplug controllers while the dreamcast is on, it theorically creates an infinite current spike, in the real world the current spike is finite. I think that everybody already unplugged/plugged back some controllers some day without busting anything, but it COULD damage something. If ...

I'm not enough of an artist to find this beautiful. I may be wrong (and don't want to say it didn't took you time nor efforts), but I've got the feeling that opening the dreamcast and giving it's shell and a pen to a kid would produce the same result.
