no it wont work with any VMU. it has to be the Nexus memory card.

it should come up in japanese, and then you go to the options and you can change the text and voices to english.

there is a code in the puyo fever save file.
when you have your vmu with the save in it this happens.

ive gotten my dreamcast to do that too.
if you have puyopuyo fever you can do this.
