It might not be OS 7, possibly OS 8 but there was a freeware CMD/Tab application switcher called LiteSwitch which proved most useful. One of those things you miss when it's not there. Says OS 9 and earlier on the web page... http://www.proteron.com/liteswitch/ I can't remember too much about OS7 exc...

Mine arrived today - yay, yay and thrice yay! "a SNES quality Dreamcast game" - ouch Have one back ;P I've only had chance to sneak 15 mins in on it, but it does look really nice, very clean and crisp and looks really good in TATE mode on a turned over monitor. The 15 mins I have played ha...

RadQuake works in this way, allowing disc swap (on PC version not mac) but visually it's not as nice as Makaqu and looks kind of blurry. It run well though. I'm not sure about Makaqu allowing disc swap or not as I'm doing this on a mac but I don't think there were any options about disc swapping. If...

Thanks fragger. I just gave it a whirl and it worked fine (i used Mac Dream Tool version 0.2.1.3 (v0.2.2). Matisfaction, I did it like this... I put the PAK files from my original Mac Quake install into the "ID1" folder of the uncompressed Makaqu. I changed the "nxMakaqu_scrambled.bin...

Heh, OS 7. I started there too when I was doing design at Uni. My first mac (performa 6400) came with OS 7 (along with some cool games - FullThrottle and Descent). I remember being really tentative about moving up to OS8 when it came out. It seemed so new and different. OSX was quite a jump for me b...

Anyone know how long it takes for the free shipping?

Also, am I likely to get stung on the import VAT. I have in the past on larger packages but wondered if single games slipped through a bit easier.

It's weird but OS9 still seems faster than OSX today - just more responsive. I don't miss the crashes, extension conflicts and application quits much though.

Wasn't DC Soldier Of Fortune using a modified version of the Quake 2 engine?

That said, the load times were painfully slow and that was a commercial release.

Yeah the flashing face means it can't find a start up volume. It might be worth it to try re-initialising the disc. I'd disconnect any external hard drives if you have any attached then boot up from the CD (hold 'c' key during startup, with the system install CD in the mac) and when it's booted from...

You might be right about the IP Bin but I havn't tried it. I can't be arsed with wasting anymore CDs to try it. Besides NxMakaqu works OK with the Demo Menu Loader Disc so I'm happy. I've not tried emulators this way either as I've found CDI files easier to deal with and have just relied on disc swa...

I'd just put it down to bad luck. Did you re-initialise the hard disk before re-installing the system software? That usually helps. As Dr. Freeze mentioned it could be the ram not quite being fixed in right. I had a performa that crashed heavily on start up until I pushed the ram in a bit better.

Nice to see the ill-fated DC Zip Drive. Some of the controllers looked interesting, especially the one that was long and thin with a trigger on the underside - rather like the upcoming Revolution controller in some respects.

Quake III Arena and Unreal would work OK on the G3 and I guess would be easier to hook up with PC users (just an assumption though)

I've tried using MDT but it requires an IP bin so I left that alone but got it working a different way instead. I put the PAK files from my original Mac Quake install into the "ID1" folder of the uncompressed Makaqu, then burned the Makaqu folder as an ISO 9660 disc. I clicked on the "...

Same here, just on corners.

It would have been great if you could set options for racing to decide whether power boosts and/or bonus items are turned on or off. At least that way you could choose the kind of race you were participating in.
