well i have a lid switch in both of my dreamcasts...my other one has a lid on it but i never put the lid down anyway (since i dont have to) when playing games. I'll eventually get a replacement lid (maybe transparent) for it though, but for right now no lid. I hope you didn't throw away the old lid,...

look under the gdrom (not under the whole unit...just the top part that lifts up)...and you will find the motor that moves the laser (not the motor that spins the spindle...look more carefully) and the points are right on the motor. Doing it is not hard...but getting it to work is a mystery (well......

2-3 coats will do it...but when you put the coats on dont soak it.

Edit: also before you paint it...you might wanna sand it a little with some really smooth sandpaper (i use 320) and then apply your paint.

Edit....again: http://www.devcast.dcemulation.org has a really good paint tutoral.

just run over to wal-mart and pick up a can of Krylon paint but when you go to spray it...dont soak the dc because then it will look as if you "just sprayed it on".

access led for dc?

im not sure if this has been mentioned..but i like the idea of riva's saturn access led mod where the led blinks as its loading. Is there a point on the gd-rom unit in the dc that could possibly be used as a access led?

well...you could start by turning the gd-rom unit upside down and unscrew everything until you having nothing but the casing and than you could paint it but im not sure its worth taking the time when nobody's going to be looking inside of your dc.
