Re: iPod Shuffle Turns Weird
wow. what a terrible idea. I usually run my headphones under my shirt so they don't get caught while I'm working. It looks like those controls would be just below the collar of my shirt... most convenient for me is right where they are. I keep my nano clipped on my pocket where I can control it with...

Re: Gun Day at Church cancelled...
I go to school in Arkansas. From what I understand, this was brought up after a few churches got shot up by outsiders, during service. The point of the law was to allow people to defend themselves. It's the same as people trying to get guns allowed on campuses after the Virginia Tech shooting.

Re: just how secure is ssh?
you're right, Ex, i'm on the university network, connecting to a computer off-campus. so basically they'll be able to see who I'm connected to and that i'm using ssh/scp or maybe vnc over an ssh tunnel, but won't necessarily be able to see what files i'm transferring or what commands i'm sending ove...

just how secure is ssh?
My university has taken to packet sniffing to keep tabs on what is done on their network. I've a computer off-campus that I can access via ssh and create a tunnel for VNC, I'm just curious how easily they could see through that. I guess what I'm asking is exactly how good is ssh's encryption. (stran...

c1.neweggimages.com
anyone else having trouble loading Newegg lately? Randomly for the past couple weeks if I try to go to newegg it gets hung up connecting to c1.neweggimages.com and the page won't load and if I try to ping the server it reports "ping: cannot resolve c1.neweggimages.com: Unknown host" is thi...

Re: Battery Suggestions for Best Practices
I got one of the first generation iPod Nanos in Spring of '06, used it mostly in my studio classes for a few months, but ever since, it's been mostly used in the car plugged into a charger+transmitter. Now, from a complete charge I get just under two hours of battery out of it... far cry from the 14...

Re: Stealing Wireless....somewhat
http://www.cantenna.com/ wow... they actually sell those? http://www.instructables.com/id/Wireless-Internet-Cantenna/ I've seen a lot of other instructions on making "Cantennae" with coffee cans and coax cable, instead of the fire extinguisher and usb wifi adapter in that instructable.

Scientists Close to Reconstructing First Living Cell
Modern cells are like microscopic cities: They have power plants (mitochondria), trash dumps (lysosomes), local government (the nucleus, with DNA serving as the legal charter), and many other activities going on inside their boundaries. They also have a border patrol in the form of a double-layered...

IL AG blasts Meth Coffee for 'glorifying' drugs
Illinois' attorney general blasted a coffee for glorifying drug culture and demanded the San Francisco company stop selling it. In a letter sent this week to Doll God, Attorney General Lisa Madigan asked that the company immediately cease all marketing and sales of Meth Coffee in the Illinois, citi...

Re: Zimbabwe: Home of the $50 billion cheeseburger
Hyperinflation is a scary thought. I wonder if global hyperinflation could happen? aren't there countries that base the value of their money on the value of the US Dollar? If the US were to find itself spiraling out of control like that, then wouldn't those countries follow suit? Granted, it's less...

I downloaded Firefox 3 for Mac. The first time I ran it, it wouldn't load pages. The second time I ran it, I tried logging into Facebook, and it wouldn't store my session. Haven't tried it since.

I used to ride to work when I worked in the city. Bout a 22km trip each way. I just my clothes in a backpack and had a shower when I got to work. not everyone has a shower at their place of employment...in fact I'm willing to wager most don't. also whoever said something about sweat not being an is...

Re: 35 Articles of Impeachment introduced against Bush
if only there was a feasible way for the public to remove a President... but considering how fickle the public is, and the disastrous effects it would have on the stability of the nation, I suppose I'm glad there isn't. Though personally I've wishing for an impeachment for years now...

Re: This smut case is extreme, even in Los Angeles
Even as an art student having been fed the modern "anything is art" concept, I don't really see how this could be considered art. ... but sending someone to jail for it? isn't that a little excessive? A hefty fine I could understand, but jail? ...aren't our jails crowded enough already?

...can you blame the kid? after the way they took him with guns drawn like that? I'm pretty sure if something like that had happened when I was six I'd come to resent the people responsible... and |darc| has a good point too...
