My experience with the newest Ubuntu on my laptop is that when DMA is enabled, all burns fail. The previous version of Ubuntu worked fine with DMA enabled though. Haven't cared enough to track down the issue though, I rarely burn CDs.

Come to think of it, I seem to remember preordering that as well. Or at least sitting on the page and debating it. I had completely forgotten about that.

Don't worry about my bandwidth, no limits for me, and I'm on uncapped dual OC3s, so it should be pretty fast.

USB and Maple are very, very different. The only reason splicing wires together works for the XBox is because the XBox uses USB. What you did has no chance of working at all, and has a decent chance of breaking either your controller or your computer.

He was talking about the difference in the disks. One is magnetic, as in read by a magnet, the other is optical, as in read by a laser.

Palm Zire 72s Under Linux

I've spent a few hours now looking on Google and trying to get Gnome-Pilot or JPilot working with my new Palm Zire 72s. No matter what I try, I can't get it sync. Anyone have any ideas?

I just got the chip I ordered (Spider v1.1) and installed it. The XBOX now turns on and displays video, I just need to get around to getting a BIOS flashed on the chip.

I had the Dream Inducer source at one point. No idea what happened to it or where I got it from though.

I just opened up my XBOX and found the solder points. There is no way I can ever solder to those. I am correct in thinking that this could be solved by sticking a (preferably solderless) modchip in it?

I do have access to a Windows machine with a floppy drive. I'll try that when I get a chance.

Right now all thats on the drive is a partition ~2.5 megs that is required by the BIOS. I believe there are two 1-2 gig drives in it and it does have a network card.

Like I said, there is what seems to be a floppy image, but it is 6 megs.

Butters - How do I do that? Also, I have no floppy drive on my only machine that currently runs Linux.

Booting Linux Installer

I was trying to install Linux on an older computer yesterday. The problem is that it will not boot off CD or USB drive, and I can't find a way to boot it otherwise. It came with a boot disk image, but it is 6 megs, so its pretty much useless.

XBOX Dying/Dead

My XBOX has been slowly dying and now it seems to be dead. When it is turned on with either the eject or power button, the green power light flashes, but there is no video and the drive never opens. This is the original model (I think people call it 1.0).
