About Windows CE for Dreamcast

Windows CE is an operating system that was intended for embedded devices such as PDAs. WindowsCE for the Dreamcast is a development library developed by Microsoft that was meant to ease the conversion process between Windows programs and Dreamcast programs.

Despite the "compatible with Microsoft WindowsCE" mark on the right side of most Dreamcast models, the entire operating system is not present on the Dreamcast, and WindowsCE is not embedded into the system as it is with most other WindowsCE enabled devices.

Most commercial games do not use WindowsCE, and use the Sega-created development library, Katana, instead, which is also used in the Naomi and Naomi2 arcade boards, and as such, is still in use today.

Around 50 games use WindowsCE for Dreamcast and a few scene and homebrew releases.
