NTSC-U Dreamcast NON MIL-CD BIOS Dumped!!

Fixed DEAD LINK!!

This was done by a member of assembler games. Not sure if he wants his name out there so you can go to the forums if need be but I figured i would host and shared the fabled and often labeled as a myth BIOS. I can confirm once flashed to my DC backups did in fact stop working.

Very interesting!
You are right, this was in the area of fables until now. Probably very few DCs were manufactured with this one.

Very interesting.

The big question is will it boot discs burned in a "data/data" session scheme? There were big arguments that there were some non-MIL-CD booting Dreamcasts that booted CD-Rs if they were burned with the first track data, instead of audio. I do not believe this, though.

Nope will not play data/data disc, I have two DC's with the dual BIOS setup and I flashed this out of curiosity. None of my backups work anymore and all I build is data/data for personal use except with a few exceptions that don't boot in that format. Anyhow now I am stuck on this stupid BIOS and can't get back. Luckily the stock BIOS still works and plays CDR's. I should have hacked it to be region free at least while doing so, at least then i could play original out of region games still. I didn't believe it myself as i bought a Dec, 2000 DC just to "test" this out and it plays backups just fine so not all after Oct. 2000 had this new 2.1 BIOS.

Thanks, that's very interesting. I did not expect data/data discs to play. I suspect that people who thought they had data/data-only DCs really just couldn't figure out how to use burning tools that created audio/data discs. So that puts that rumor to rest, unless there's another BIOS revision out there...

Well I am off that stupid BIOS now with help from the dumper, I had to run it in parallel and switch BIOS chips quickly and flash. Glad that is over with and no one else has to deal with it. Like I said ihave a Dec,2000 model last month they were ever made and it plays any backup I toss at it so it is a gamble and no real way to tell if you get one of these. Good thing i only play GD-ROM's anyhow. I just got done hacking it to be region free and I am going to reflash it on one of my decks now and see what happens.

Well the BIOS can be made region free without any problems for retail disc but I can't edit it to play MIL-CD's even by pasting the header from a MIL-CD BIOS.

The boot sequence for a MIL-CD disc is very different, and I assume the code was taken out completely.

The Kabuto was updated from v1.00 for v0 DC's and v1&v2 DC's with v1.01 bootloader to 1.02. You can easily tell if you have one as I have been buying the crap out of systems to test out. On the mobo it will say v2.1 on the board near the BIOS chip. This means no mil-cd's not even official ones as I have tested those.

One day we will find a way to verifiy those as I have a ton of games like Gunlord and all the official Sega Mil-CD games. Also it seems that only NTSC-U Dreamcast made in Japan have this dreaded BIOS. All the NTSC-U Dreamcast from China even Dec 2000 systems do not have the updated Kabuto. I guess only Sega of Japan implemented it and went tits up before spreading it to other manufacturing plants.

Here is the new BIOS chip part number as well and as you see below the Kabuto was updated to 1.02 instead of the 1.01 used in v1&v1 DC's and the v0 DC's with v1.00
