New atari 800emulator released (updated)

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

New atari 800emulator released (updated)

Post by pavelbure »

here is a copy and paste of the email i recieved. i havent tried this out yet.

Hi,

I've just made available the version 0.76 of the dreamcast port of
the atari800 emulator (atari800.atari.org).

The main changes are:

* use Atari800 cvs code base as of jan-27-2006
* use KOS svn code base version 289
* unplugging/replugging controllers after atari800dc has started
up works now
* screen update is now done by an assembler routine

You can get source and binaries (no CD images, since there are
copyrighted BIOS ROMs and games/programs needed to make a CD) at

ftp://ftp.groessler.org/pub/chris/dream ... 800dc/0.76 .

regards,
chris

Sorry to bring this up again, but I'd like to know: How do I correctly burn the latest version?
I burned one of the previous versions successfully, but can't get this done. The compressed file I got from the FTP contains an elf, Atari800.bin (unscrambled), and Atari800.scrambled. I just took the Atari800.scrambled file and renamed it to Atari800.bin. Then I used both Bootdreams and Selfboot, CDI and Nero images, but everytime the DC wouldn't boot the resulting image, it just goes back to start menu. To be sure, I just generated and burned the latest version of Neo4all with the same settings and methods, and that worked.

Ah, I just downloaded the files labled as "easier to burn" from this site, and those do work without a problem. It's just a previous version, but that's fine. Was my fault that the bin needs to be labled as 1st_read? Is this really a must?
