I'll be giving that one a try. I have a Mustang GT and the mileage isn't exactly the best, but with an extra 6 miles per gallon, it would be great gas mileage for a car with a V-8.

Don't do it. Acetone eats rubber in the fuel system. It'll eventually knock out your fuel pump and/or fuel line.

You sure about this? Gasoline is tough on rubber too... Besides, they aren't suggesting you fill your tank up with acetone. It is a very small amount added to the tank of fuel only to allow easier vaporization of the fuel in the combustion chamber.

According to that site, 6 months of soaking rubber parts in pure Acetone had no effect on the parts.

I think they were referring to metal parts, but they never said one way or the other.

In early 2004, a SmartGas reader in New York State filled three bottles with: pure acetone, part acetone/part gasoline and straight gasoline. Into these he placed O-rings, pump diaphragms, plastic fittings, hose parts and other neoprene/n-buna stuff...Months later he told me the pure acetone bottle was slightly darkened and some vinyl parts swelled...He dried the parts to mike them again and noted after six months that the growth was about two-percent to five-percent in the bottles with gasoline, which was well within limits. Almost unnoticeable.

ill do my own tests on some parts, and see what it does...im still curious.

and i seem to be finding more articles saying it works then it doesnt, and the ones that say it doesnt work there main point is because of research the oil companies did...

this site says that acetone is used in race cars to increase the milage/hp since the 30's...so i really dont know what to believe...

There's too much contrasting information to really know who is right.

well, i found this thread of people that have used it in trucks, and the one that i just read got a gain of 23.4%. so while that's not 30, it's damn close to what they say....

just google "acetone gas additive" and you'll get a lot of stuff supporting it, more for than against it.

Somebody in the OIL industry said it was bad. Of course somebody in the oil business isn't going to think highly of it.

just spend 15 bucks and buy a tornado. I went from 17.7 miles per gallon to 23-24. I tend not to believe what they are saying. Its basically octane booster. That should decrease your gas milage.

Acetone can and will eat through just about anything synthetic. For a good quick example, take a styrofoam cup and fill it to the brim with acetone. So I say, user beware.

That's a trick, the acetone will eat through the styrofoam so quickly that the bottom will melt before you get anywhere near the middle, much less the top.

yeah, but what if you mix it in water at 1 part acetone for every 3000 parts of water?
