In early 2004, a SmartGas reader in New York State filled three bottles with: pure acetone, part acetone/part gasoline and straight gasoline. Into these he placed O-rings, pump diaphragms, plastic fittings, hose parts and other neoprene/n-buna stuff...Months later he told me the pure acetone bottle was slightly darkened and some vinyl parts swelled...He dried the parts to mike them again and noted after six months that the growth was about two-percent to five-percent in the bottles with gasoline, which was well within limits. Almost unnoticeable.

ill do my own tests on some parts, and see what it does...im still curious.
and i seem to be finding more articles saying it works then it doesnt, and the ones that say it doesnt work there main point is because of research the oil companies did...
this site says that acetone is used in race cars to increase the milage/hp since the 30's...so i really dont know what to believe...

well, i found this thread of people that have used it in trucks, and the one that i just read got a gain of 23.4%. so while that's not 30, it's damn close to what they say....
just google "acetone gas additive" and you'll get a lot of stuff supporting it, more for than against it.

Somebody in the OIL industry said it was bad. Of course somebody in the oil business isn't going to think highly of it.hearld500 wrote:http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/ ... 681348.htm

Think I might try some.

Acetone can and will eat through just about anything synthetic. For a good quick example, take a styrofoam cup and fill it to the brim with acetone. So I say, user beware.
That's a trick, the acetone will eat through the styrofoam so quickly that the bottom will melt before you get anywhere near the middle, much less the top.
