I don't think any Mortal Kombat game has ever been good. Mortal Kombat 2 was a great sequel to it's original with tons of new content and characters but the core game play is weak. I believe the success of the franchise 100% due to the controversial issues it raised upon its first release and the creation of the fatality. The series really got bad once it went 3D.

My thoughts exactly. I was in 8th grade when MK came out, and I remember all my 14 year old friends thought MK was the greatest thing ever...and they all thought I was crazy for thinking Street Fighter II was a better game. I tried to like the MK series...I really did...and to be fair, I thought MK2 was decent...but alas...MK ranks right up there with DOA on my list of all-time least favorite fighting game series.
I never really got into fighters... all the moves that you had to memorize and everything got pretty annoying rather quickly.... never seemed to be for me.
With that said, MK2 was my favorite fighter of all time.... very close second being Virtua Fighter.
penor: hay gusy how do i make ubuntu look cool like vista
MK 2 and MK3 were the best of the franchise...and I had mixed feelings about Deadly Alliance (liked the unlockable stuff and the mission-type game); hate the last 3d one; and those rpg games with the mk characters.
imo, mk1 looked and played better on the snes, but without the blood and whatnot, nothing compares to playing the original on MAME; now, that is a good time
