Sure
Hi all.
I'd like to announce of upcoming release of following ports of FreeDO.
1. PS2 Port (using original/licensed PS2 sdk)
2. XBOX Port (using original/licensed XBOX sdk)
3. PocketPC port
4. PalmOS 5 port
5. DreamCast port (long expected )
Also we're ready to manufacture the following 3DO adapters:
1. 3do to pc/mac usb
2. 3do to ps2 usb
3. 3do to xbox
4. 3do to ipaq (36xx/37xx/38xx/39xx/hpipaq)
5. 3do to palm/sony
Please note that for PS2 and XBOX ports we've signed official license agreements. So we will have to charge for pressed discs and to 3do adapters for them. We promise to keep the prices as low as possible, just to cover the royalties.
Also please note that win32/mac versions will always remain free.
Please tell us what do you think...
Also we'd like to open preorder thread in order to check the demand.

If they really did get a license to distribute it on pressed discs using the SDK (for Xbox and PS2 ports), they have to charge money. But he's not forcing you to do anything, and since there's no mention of an adapter or pressed discs for the DC version, maybe the DC version would even be free. We'll probably be waiting a good while anyway.Clessy wrote:Sounds like a scam to get preorder money.

Look at any operating system that you can buy.Grimlock wrote:If its pressed and sold doesnt it have to be perfection?
1) Various Linux distributions - a damn good operating system, which you can purchase on CD. It's constantly being updated and improved, which by extention implies imperfection.
2) Mac OS X - another damn good operating system. I still get messages to update my OS with fixes all the time - so, the one I bought wasn't perfect.
3) Windows. - With all of its vulnerabilities, security holes, and all the other things users complain about, it is certainly not perfect. You pay a lot for this imperfect OS, too.

I'm just curious why the port it to the PS2 and Xbox if they have to use the official devkits. I mean, they risk to get sued by Sony and Microsoft but they simply don't care? And do you think one of their aims of this emulator is to sell their adapters? And why isn't a Dreamcast adapter coming? I think the DC "market" for such things is higher than the one on the PS2 or Xbox.

I liked the 3DO too. I actually bought one when they first came out. Then I sold/traded it for something. I can't remember. Damn it. If I kept every system I ever had instead of "upgrading" to newer consoles I would have to much. What was I thinking?!
Anyways, there is a great game-show-styled game called Twisted that used lots of nice FMV and witty humor. I bought it from ebay in hopes that it would work on FreeDO. It didn't but I also haven't checked to see if a newer version of FreeDO would do the trick.
But FreeDO on DC? I don't think so. At least not at a playable speed. The 3DO hardware was about on par with the PSOne.

I really hope this comes out for ANY system, because I'm not very happy with the PC port right now. The website claims that everything from the system is 99% emulated and all they need to do is "optimize". BS. I bought Ballz Director's Cut and it doesn't even work. I got Battle Chess to work and a couple other games, and most barely run properly at all. If this emulator gets better I'll definately get Way of the Warrior, Shadow: War of Succession, Twisted, Zhadnost, Plumbers don't wear neckties, snow job, and whatever else.

From what I gathered, they're actually licensed developers. That's why they intend to sell those ports - to pay for the cost of licensing and all that. The other versions will be free, because they won't owe anybody any royalties.Freeze wrote:I'm just curious why the port it to the PS2 and Xbox if they have to use the official devkits.
