rom conversion

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

rom conversion

Post by DcManiaC »

i try converting genesis roms from smd to bin format but grom and smd2bin give me an error msg saying there not a valid smd file (that error was given to 20 of the roms) and only 1 rom was successfully converted to bin
does anyone know how to check what the real formats of the files are? as someone might of renamed the extension of the roms

Strange that this topic hasn't been locked yet. I mean, AFAIK, there are no Genesis emus (besides the one we don't discuss) that requires rom conversion. Not only that, but someone specifically recommended the emu we don't discuss. Damn. Where are the mods? :o

There are lots of emulators that perform better when ROMs are in the BIN format. Don't have a go at somebody for something that they might be trying to do.

Try renaming them to .BIN and try using a program to convert them to .SMD. If it converts them all, then you know you've just got renamed .SMDs.

The someone who specifically mentioned it IS a mod, one who won't lock needlessly. No need to assume warez without a solid basis.

Yea what abunch of fools assumming this or that, the funniest thing the guys complaining about it are probably the people that have segagen cause knowing that segagen requires bin format isn't a well known thing unless u have actually used it. That being said u have no clue why this guy wants his roms in bin format and to assume he wants it for this or that with no proof is stupid.

Impetus, I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to Christuserloeser (and obviously someone thought he shouldn't have mentioned it, because it's gone from his post). You were asking a perfectly valid question. You're probably right; we were all jumping to conclusions. It's just that questions like this are usually locked up tight right away around here, regardless of whether the original poster was actually talking about SegaGen or not.
