This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Official Super FamiCast WishList

Post by Lavalord »

Hey. I made this list becuase Scherzo said that he might incorperate some of the features we'd want.

I'd like to see a single game bootable feature like Nester has.

Thanks Scherzo for taking on a great project. The pre pre pre alpha was cool.

I second the single game bootable feature, that's a great idea.

I'd also like it to be theme-able. Plus it would be cool if you could have music on the start-up screen, like DSNES does. (I'd like to see all the emu's have that feature.)

Needs to be PAL/NTSC switchable a la DSNES.

Here are some wishes I have for this project (a lot of them have already been mentioned in passing by myself and others):

Theme-able (A theme based on the same concept as Dream Inducer themes would be a dream come true for me).
Screenshots (a screenshot of the game would appear when you highlight it from the menu).
Custom music in the menu screen (This is one of the nicest features available in DreamSNES, but I have heard that leaving the mp3's off of the disc will cause the emulator to crash. It would be nice if the menu music was optional).
Zip File support (This is a huge downfall of DreamSNES, and I know Scherzo has already discussed trying to include this).
Custom music within the games (I don't even know if this is remotely possible, but it would be a really cool feature, and I think someone has mentioned this in the other post).
Compressed save files (I am not quite sure exactly how this works, but someone else mentioned it, and, being that I only have three VMU's, and two of them are full of actual DC games, my VMU space is at a premium).

That's all I can think of at the moment. I know there were a few other things that were mentioned in the main topic, but I can't remember what they are right now.

The save anytime option would be nice to, I believe Nester had that, rather than DSNES
save system. Also frameskip and adj z80 clock until it hits 100% speed.

i think you can count on that...zince even the current release supports it.

i think a single game boot is the best, aside from that speed is the only important thing to me :)

The ability to select Mono or Stereo sound and to select it's frequency would be very welcome, as would being able to disable specific parts of the emulation, like Transparencies, Mode 7, etc.

Keeping in touch is at the top of mine :-) Just out of curiosity, what is single game bootable mean?

Also being able to disable save features for games where you don't care (such as it only there to save high scores.) Would there be a way to set this up game per game? (that would save VMU space Curt )

Single game bootable means that it just loads a pre-defined ROM from the disc, no selection meny or anything.

Not trying to be a troll, but what's with zip support? Dreamsnes can support a max of 1024 games. So let's say that each rom you have is about 5mb, that would mean that you could slap over 130 games using a 700mb disc. There's no point in rom hoarding because even the loneliest of nerdy fellas wouldn't have enough time to go through them all.

But hey, supposedly the pre alpha already incorperates zip file support. I won't use it because most roms usually have a .txt file in it or some other useless junk... good luck on the project though! I'd love to see proper screen support!
Dreamsnes is bloody awesome and all, and I know that I shouldn't really complain, but the startup screens get pretty annoying after a while. Especially when your Dreamcast is a laggy bugger. *hint hint*

Full speed. Everything else is just fluff in my opinion (well, except maybe a menu screen). I guess this isn't really much of a feature request, since full speed emulation is already something he's working towards.

I concur. If done right, analog control can be just as reliable as digital. Plus that's where my thumb naturally strays to on the controller.
Or if it were selectable. You could use the analog for the games and the DPad for extra options, or vice versa depending on user preference.
