DreamSNES is OFFICIALLY ALIVE! ("Interview" with PBortas) :P
Quote taken from a RELIABLE source (Snes9x forums),edited and corrected by me:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
S-DD1 chip (de)compression completely emulated,NO graphics packs needed! That fast? Unbelievable...
"Peter Bortas: Great things happen while I'm away.
Congratulations and good work,Andreas! And thanks. Not having to load the Graphics packs helps those of us with a target machine with only 16MiB of RAM. :-)
Thanks also to the other developers who helped reverse-engineer it."
That means: You'll see Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Star Ocean running on your "poor ol' white dream box" with no problems.
Just read this and cross your fingers, because the wait will pay off big time!
If you don't bitch and shut your holes up,you'll get a nice surprise soon :)
...that's when Snes9x 1.42 comes out,so stay tuned till then.

Snes9x progress so far compared to 1.39a:
C4 chip emulation fixed a bit
Nearly all sprite, transparency and priority bugs eliminated
ROM color code detection system added
Fixed Mode7 and DSP-1 emulation a bit
Legend finally has sound,so all supported games now have sound
SuperScope,Justifier and mouse games control and aiming are near-perfect
A bit faster,by removing unnecessary hacks, dead code and a bit of optimization
More games supported
More stable
Better and faster sound engine
Sound core generating sound at 32kHz REAL SNES samplerate now
S-DD1 games will not require graphics packs
Overall much more accurate emulation
I find it better than ZSNES for now

Welll.... they'll probably still be using the old CPU core or an updated version of it, and not the CPU core from the new SNES9x. This is because they already took the time to rewrite it in SH4 asm. BUT, the sound and graphics could see some small improvement. More importantly, they could have already rewritten some of those parts too, for all we know. Regardless, it sounds like compatibility will increase without the need for graphics packs. That is definetely cool, because graphics packs vary in size and some are going to just be too big. Who knows what improvements may crop up? I hope we don't have to wait too long.

they will in twenty minutes produce the complete source code to World of Warcraft.

The person (or people) that reversed the S-DD1 chip aren't part of the DreamSNES team.bender wrote:That fantastic reversing work only says to me that those guys are really skilled to do THE perfect snes emulator for the dc.

And there is even a newer version of the sound core from Anti-Res that is even faster and better-sounding that's going to replace the OLD Anti-Res sound engine.
And they plan to add the Gaussian/Cubic sound interpolation in a next release of Snes9x,so finally it will sound "SOFT" like a real SNES.For now,the sound is still "rough","scratchy".
