Do yourselves a favor and get a modchip rather than messing around with a forced eject switch. The switch is a pain in the ass, and makes swapping discs even more trouble than it already is.
Neo2-type mods are not that hard to install. I wouldn't advise anything Neo4 or Messiah unless you are at least halfways skilled with a soldering iron though. They'd certainly be better though - no disc swapping.
And no, there will never be a fully external modchip - none of the necessary signals are present on any of the ports on the ps2 (wouldn't make any sense for them to be - unlike Sega, most companies don't put great big fat backdoors into their consoles...).
As for the usb key - there is really no point in getting one - the one connection you have to make is the hardest of the ones required for a neo2 - if you can do it, you can certainly just install a neo2.

The switch is really not a good idea now that there are better solutions. You will be stuck either ejecting a spinning disc (not good), or having to track down particular versions of the ar2/gs2 (which you pretty much need to use the switch, but only certain versions stop the disc, and not all versions work with all ps2s).
Anyway, see http://duke.napalm-x.com for the original switch mod. When I did it nearly a year ago, I put in a second switch to switch between using the normal eject and the forced eject, and got +5v from the board. Theres a schematic of that floating about someplace, but I'm not sure where.

Is it really that bad to stop coding? I thought with Naplink out and all it would be all cool.....Bigboy wrote: Sony are now chasing mod chip makers. The Neo4 has apparently been pulled, and is very hard to get a hold of. The other, Messia is also very hard to get, but may still be available. A real bugger. I wanted one to start coding my PS2 at Christmass..

Just a quick point/question: Why isn't Andrew K at least DCEmu Respected? The man has done sh*t loads for the scene and so deserves a lot of respect (although I do believe he has been recieving a bit of respect from all of y'all )
