NO!

Don't do it! While it "can" be done, it's better to ahve it on a flat surface for ventalation.

Basically, the lower it is to the carpet, the more debris, from the carpet, the system fan will suck into the system; This could could cause problems with cooling and moving parts.

well thats not really any differnt the the floor, the main problem would be the fan being semi blocked and the system not being able to cool. The off level thing could cause cd reading problems...but not unless its very unlevel.

i place mines on a small box and textbooks. (Gotta use a textbook for something, right?) If i place it on a carpet, it will get very hot quickly!

Well the main problem would be that the carpet does not have a Gd-rom drive so I don't think you could emulate the Dreamcast on carpet.
But seriously, I would not sit it on the floor, it could get stepped on, tripped over or who knows what.

Post by ps2sucks »

:) The carpet in my rumpus room is of a shag type. How often should my mother vacuum the carpet ? Right now she vacuums my dreamcast play area once a week. Is this enough ?

please let :wiggleit: me know

It isn't the debris you need to worry about, it's the fact that the carpet is quite a good insulator of heat and the thicker it is, the more restrictive it will be to the airflow underneath the DC.
If you really must have it on the carpet, stick it on a book ( as someone suggested ) or some other flat thing that will let air in about the underneath of the machine.

I have never had any problems with putting my DC on the carpet. For the past year or so that is where it has been.

Sounds like a bad idea to put your consoles on the carpet. Not only can dust get into it and fuber it up, but it has a better chance of overheating.

Couldn't carpet cause static?

I would imagine the carpet might cause dust to get in the system a bit easier.

Why risk it? Think about it. All of the dust, debris, and other small particles all end up on the floor. Not to mention that if it is on the floor, you have a better chance of stepping on it by mistake (perhaps not you but others).

However, you could use it as an intruder alert defense system with four controllers spread out in the cardinal directions. If anyone should trespass, snag!!!, they fall to the floor and beg for mercy from the killer Dreamcast.

Just put it on a hard surface that doesn't conduct electricity. I heard there's a risk of static electricity zapping your dc but I'm not sure. Better safe than sorry.
