Anyone interested in RogueDC?
I am porting Rogue over to the Dreamcast. (Don't expect anything soon) And I was wondering, if anyone cares? Also, if anyone with Dreamcast porting experience gave me a few pointers i wouldn't complain...

I was expecting this question:
Ok, what is Rogue?
Rogue is old, for a computer game. This means that either (a) you have never heard of it or (b) you get all misty-eyed and nostalgic when reminded of it. Its many descendants are known as "rogue-like" games. These games are text-based and have a familiar premise: wander around in a dungeon, collect treasure, deal with bad-tempered monsters, try to finish a quest.

oh text adventures? I made a qbasic game back in the early 90's called the hunt for blue november (I made it when the hunt for red october was somewhat popular). It was actually more of a interactive story. Problem was I made it too hard and I never did beat it after I lost the hint guide.
I probably still have it somewhere.

It's not text like you're thinking. It's text, as in the GRAPHICS are ASCII characters. NetHack is Rogue's lovechild, an extremely advanced ASCII game. I'd like to see NetHack on the DC personally, as the source is available and there are MANY versions of it.. Are there multiplayer NetHacks? I honestly don't know, haven't played it.

Re: .
Ahh I remember playing a game called Bordello back in the BBS days. In that game you had whores who made you money. The more money you made the higher level your whore house was. I Was up to level 50 something but some dude had a 110th level and he stole my whores .Lartrak wrote:It's not text like you're thinking. It's text, as in the GRAPHICS are ASCII characters. NetHack site: http://www.nethack.org/
You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.
I played all these games, and I enjoyed all of them.
My favorite was Zangband: http://thangorodrim.angband.org/
If someone is looking for Rogue, he could ask at the ng rec.games.roguelike.rogue

um, hello? was this ever finished? I've been completely hooked on Nethack lately, and was hooked on Rogue before that; I'd be enamored to see either one on our beloved console
this site has sources for official releases of Rogue and its variants: http://roguelike.sourceforge.net/
iirc, all of the code there is written in C/C++ and cross-platform, it shouldn't be that hard to port. I'm learning SDL atm, so I may just port rogue and nethack myself in the next few months.
EDIT: I'm also an artist, so if anyone more experienced than me would like to make an animated, 2D overhaul of Rogue or Nethack, I'd be ready to start any time.
