A Sega Sports Dreamcast:
I must admit, it's nice to own a working Dreamcast again. And aside from the Sega Sports logo, it's pretty stylish.

Haven't posted in this thread in forever. So here is from the past few months.
(360) Bioshock 2 CE - $50.00 at best buy after coupon.
(360) Blazblue LE - $60.00 found it randomly new and picked it up as I had been wanting it
(360) Aliens vs Predator - $30.00 gamestop.com coupon stacking
(XBLA) Perfect Dark HD
(360) Crackdown - $8.00 new via amazon

Super Mario Galaxy 2
The original SMG is easily my favourite game of this generation: firmly in my top 10 best games ever. I've seen some pretty high review scores and I'm expecting something amazing here - especially considering that apart from this - the 3D platformer has pretty much died.

I also bought SMG2. Had to buy it online to get a $20 off thing, so it isn't here yet.

Re: Post everytime that you buy a new game...
Mario Galaxy 2 is good. On Sunday alone I got about 50 stars after playing 9 hours straight. I beat the game on Tuesday and currently have 78 stars.
But as good as the original? No. Much of the charm of the original is gone. There was a certain beauty to the original, with little things like Rosalina reading storybooks, the ship that lit up and became more lively and musical as you progressed, and the slightly abstract ending that stepped away from the typical Mario storylines. With this one, it's just another 'save the princess' with a standard path setup like every other Mario game. Also, many of the levels almost feel like rough drafts more than finished levels. As if they quickly developed a whole bunch of fun concept levels and forgot that they are supposed to exist in outer space. They are still fun to play, but they are bare-bone one shot levels that feel...empty.

Final Fantasy (iPod Touch)
So... I finally got an iPod product (free with my new computer)... Looking for ideas of what else to install on it, games wise.

Re: Post everytime that you buy a new game...
I have to say I both agree and disagree. The game is not as strong conceptually as the first Mario Galaxy; it was originally planned as an expansion pak for Mario Galaxy, and that shows.melancholy wrote:Mario Galaxy 2 is good. However, I do have to disagree on the level design. Yes they are one-shot levels that don't have you retreading the same ground with different tasks several times over, but that is simply a design choice. This is more like a Mario 3 or a Super Mario World, whereas the first one was more like Mario 64. Rather than give you a few large areas and then provide multiple paths/things to do there, they throw a hundred smaller, individual ideas at you. I have no problem with this; it strikes a nice contrast with Mario Galaxy 1. In fact, it's a nice break from Mario Sunshine, which felt a little too retread-y.
Yes, the game doesn't have as much of an overarching, guiding concept. Yes, the levels are shorter, with each one more dedicated to trying out a specific idea. But that, to me, just seemed the result of this game being rooted very firmly in Mario 3 design philosophy.

Re: Post everytime that you buy a new game...
Overall I'd say the level design is better in SMG2. While there was a certain appeal to having larger galaxier to explore - the whole point of a Mario game is to take-on a somewhat-linear platforming challenge, and SMG2 presents the purest 3D version of this. I also like the removal of a huge hub-world, if only because the one in SMG served no purpose - there was nothing to explore like in 64 and Sunshine.
I still prefer the original though. It's impossible not to. Being blown away by something always feels better than getting more of the same. I enjoyed SMG more at the time, and I will enjoy coming back to it more in the future.
Still, it's fucking awesome having 2 3D Mario platformers on one system. So so so much replay value.
