It reminds me of the PSP's d-pad. The color looks exactly like a ds lite though, only way to make this even more like a ds lite is to add a top screen.Pyrite wrote:The d-pad doesn't look too hot.

Re: Revised, Touchscreen GP2x With Better D-Pad
Is this the unit I remember reading about in another thread recently that was supposed to improve on the GP2X quite a bit? Ive always wanted to get one, but the battery and a few other things I read about it were a major turn off.

Nope... that's still under wraps.Nico0020 wrote:Is this the unit I remember reading about in another thread recently that was supposed to improve on the GP2X quite a bit? Ive always wanted to get one, but the battery and a few other things I read about it were a major turn off.
This new white GP2X sorta came out of nowhere. Looks like a nice improvement, though I'm a bit worried about the D-Pad. They say it's 8-way, but I'd imagine you have to hit two buttons at once to pull off diagonals. That's awkward.

In other words, exactly like a Playstation controller.TyBO wrote:Nope... that's still under wraps.Nico0020 wrote:Is this the unit I remember reading about in another thread recently that was supposed to improve on the GP2X quite a bit? I hate consoles that insist on broken up D-pads. I'm looking at you Sony.

Re: Revised, Touchscreen GP2x With Better D-Pad
I dont remember, is this console backlit to begin with? I think that was one of my major problems with the unit besides the batter. I REALLY REALLY want to get one of these. As new games dont appeal to me *too* much, and I'd love a little portable emulation with an ebook app and even an extra mp3/movie player. Especially after playing with ubuntu for the past 3 versions, i'd love something to tinker with.
What was the name or a link to the new unit that is being made again? I might have to wait for that one to come around. No backlight and no decent batter really just kill it for me.

Is that the controller that needed a new design of receiver dongle to fit properly in the slim PS2s? If so, is there any way to tell which version you're getting?BoneyCork wrote:This, this, this

Yes, the GP2X has a backlit screen.Nico0020 wrote:I dont remember, is this console backlit to begin with? I think that was one of my major problems with the unit besides the batter. The name of the new machine still hasn't been revealed, but all the information we have on it can be read in the first post here:

Re: Revised, Touchscreen GP2x With Better D-Pad
the gp2x is a failure. It has a worst HB scene than the psp and doesnt even have its own line of real games. The gp32 had a chance but everything after that has been crap. No real games is pointless. PSP is still the best portable for emulation.

Re: Revised, Touchscreen GP2x With Better D-Pad
I own two of them; one for my PS2 and one for my PC. I saw the PS3 version of that controller, and I must wonder if that USB dongle is compatible with the PC. If so, I would buy another one for convenient laptop use without a PC/PS2 adapter. Best controller ever.BoneyCork wrote:This, this, this

It fits fine, it just is a little tall and makes the PSTwo sit around an eighth of an inch off the table. It's really not that big of a deal. Back when it actually bothered me, I just put two pennies under the back and it sat level.az_bont wrote:Is that the controller that needed a new design of receiver dongle to fit properly in the slim PS2s? BUMP!
If anyone cared about the spiritual-successor to the GP2X which I brought up earlier, we have some new, concrete info on it:
Here's the link to the most recent (and extremely lengthy) discussion about the device:

If anyone cared about the spiritual-successor to the GP2X which I brought up earlier, we have some new, concrete info on it:
- It will use the OMAP3430 for it's SoC, which, in simple terms means: a machine leaps and bounds more powerful than the PSP. You can expect fullspeed emulation for PSX, GBA, SNES, possibly N64, and many other systems.
- It will feature a D-Pad and two analogs.
- WiFi
- Keyboard
- Touchscreen
- It'll cost roughly $330 USD, or £199 (including VAT)
- It will probably be released in Spring '08
- It still doesn't have a name.

Re: Revised, Touchscreen GP2x With Better D-Pad
I don't see any real confirmation of this, and I'd be a little bit surprised if they could actually get OMAP series chips (though I guess they've at least talked to somebody enough to get pricing estimates):# It will use the OMAP3430 for it's SoC

So, if the price is too steep, or you simply can't wait till spring, you should get a GP2X now.
