Public Domain Music
Need help guys. I'm putting together a DVD for the Uni Motor Racing team (http://www.unisa.edu.au/sae/team.asp <-bottom right) which we will give to sponsors to show them what we do and the exposure we can give them. Since is for a uni they insist all music put on it must used legally. So, I need to find public domain music, mainly rock and punk im thinking that goes well with motor racing. Where can I find this? A google search has heaps of sites come up most of which don't have a very organised collection or on'y have classical. Any help would be great.

Re: Public Domain Music
You could always ask some random bands on soundclick.
Otherwise, try archive.org?

Re: Public Domain Music
try asking some local bands. that should be cheap and would even give your dvd a cool local flare.

Here's just what you need: music released under the Creative Commons license.

A lot of old recordings have expired copyrights...I don't know if any of it fits the feel you're going for...but try poking around for old recordings such as Robert Johnson, big bands, Louis Armstrong, old swing & blues recordings in general, and possibly even some early rock.
Also try checking out Edison sites. He recorded a lot of different short sounds and songs and whatnot to promote the phonograph.

Also try Triple J unearthed (http://www.triplejunearthed.com/)
Loads of free music there, it's not public but these people want to get noticed so I am sure that many would give you permission.

Re: Public Domain Music
The problem with having to ask for someone's permisson is that I need to get the uni lawyers involved. Thats how serious they take it. So, I'm trying the easy option of getting a song that is signed to a free licence already. I might end up not putting music on and get someone at the uni to do it so I don't have the piss around with it.
