DC-BOR burning (I need help please I am a newbie.)

Post by Dream Project »

I'm a dude who still loves my dreamcast but this is my first time burning a BOR game a here's what I got.........

Dreamcast Double Dragon Extreme (NTSC).cdi (It came that way when I download it I perfer to download cdi files instead figuring out how to turn pak.file to cdi.files.)

DC-OpenBOR-V0.2 (with a 1ST_READ.bin file, I'm not sure if I still need it if I already have the cdi.file.)

BootDreams 0.61 version

What I learn from Senile-
Q: I just burned BoR for my game console and it doesn't work! What's wrong?
The most common reasons would be (1) a poor quality CD-R, or (2) you burned the image as a file, instead of opening it with the appropriate CD burning software.

To avoid the first problem, we recommend that you use Philips discs. Sony and Fuji are not recommended, and neither are nameless brands.

A Dreamcast-specific problem might be that your DC doesn't play games from a CD-R. On the bottom of your DC, there is a silver sticker which should provide information about serial number, type, version, etc. You will see a number next to the "PAL" or "NTSC" indication. If that number is 0 or 1, you're good. If it is 2, you may have a problem.

There are different theories about which Dreamcast versions can play homebrew games, and which ones cannot. If you have a type 2 DC which does play them, please let us know.

I got my Philips discs ready to use but now I need ya to tell me how it is done flawlessly.

Okay, install BootDreams, start it, select 'CDI Burner', load "Dreamcast Double Dragon Extreme (NTSC).cdi" and burn :)

No. You can burn at the lowest speed your burner supports, but don't try to force it to burn slower than that. If the lowest speed your burner supports is, for example, 8x, burn at that.

Thanks for all the info, I need to ask one more question. Sorry if I'm annoying ya I just got to be sure so I don't waste my discs.

As long I have a cdi.file I don't have to worry about the 1ST_READ.bin, right?

Yes, no need to worry. A CDI is an image containing the 1ST_READ.BIN (the executable) and the BOR.PAK (the graphics/sounds/configuration data).

I mentioned BootDreams because it allows you to burn a CDI, next to its capabilities of creating your own images.

Just downloaded Dragons of Rage at http://www.lavalit.com/downloads/
It comes in a pak.file, so how do I make a cdi.file with the 1ST_READ.bin with bootdreams (just update it to 1.0.3)?

Wait a few hours until a new Dreamcast version is online. (It's being tested as we speak).

Will do. ;)

Yes.

- Also I just noticed that you got DC-OpenBoR-v0.2:
Dream Project wrote:DC-OpenBOR-V0.2 (with a 1ST_READ.bin file, I'm not sure if I still need it if I already have the cdi.file.)
That's a good start. All you need to do is to extract it and grab either the PAL version (EU, AU) or the NTSC version (US, JP) and put it into C:\BootDreams\OpenBoR\, then put the bor.pak into the same folder and burn with BootDreams. That's it. :)

bor.pak can be any .pak file, just rename it to bor.pak.

Btw, did you notice this link & download ?
