I find myself abusing save states anyways. My biggest gripe at this point is the sound delay/looping, it's incredibly distracting. If you could just toss out a build that addresses that in anyway that'd be great, I mean there are imperfect builds out already.

I tested some games recently with your latest release, hopefully this will help in some way.

Hm, I posted a long bugreport at DCEmu UK back in 2004 when GPDC PVR Preview v3 had been released...

BlackAura replied with what I should have known already:
It's an unfinished WIP and it has bugs and he's aware of them.

I know it takes quite a while to test all these games and write down what's the problem with them, so thanks for support on hunting down bugs - but as long as you don't note which version your game is according to GoodGen's naming standard (hack, bad dump, good dump, E/U/J/etc.), it's of not much help anyway. ;)

Other than that 99% of the things you listed likely have been fixed already (like the sound skipping) - or just won't apply anymore simply because major parts of the code had been completly rewritten since 2004. :)

I use clean (U) versions whenever possible because GenesisPlusDC has problems with other regions a lot of the time. I basically wrote the bug report for personal use, as to avoid using games that don't work in any future compilation. I'd love to see yours though if you have it handy.

A lot of the region problems are because it's almost impossible to reliably detect what region to use. The GoodGen region codes are usually more reliable than the ROM's built-in region codes, but I've not been able to use those yet.

The main problem with the current versions of GP/DC is that it either seems slower than the current versions (the sound fixes added noticeable frameskipping), or around 70% of that "working" list would now be under the "crashes" list if you're using FAME instead of C68k.

If I could get everything working properly with FAME, there wouldn't be that much that'd need fixing before I could make a release that'd be an obvious improvement.

Any chance of just starting from scratch and porting Gens? It's open-source I believe.

Gens is pretty resource-intensive, IIRC.

depending on how bad the frameskipping is, most people would probably want a build with correct sound even with some frameskipping.

It's heavily based on x86 assembler code and wouldn't work with a Super Hitachi CPU.

Also, parts of GPDC already ARE ported from Gens (like the sound core). ;)

I tend to agree with DCSteve, people prefer a little frameskip over bad sound emulation, but I wonder what the problem is with FAME. Let me PM Fox68k to see if he could help.

Btw, I wonder what the current CPU emus in GenesisPlusDC are: C68k and CZ80 I assume ? I wonder why Chui switched back to the MAME Z80 emu for Neo4All ?

Working save support (battery saves only, save states will never be supported)

what does this mean? can I play wonder boy monster world/land and save at any point turn off the power to the dreamcast and return to that exact point saved later?

ok I understand now, NO savestate (Saving anywhere/anytime) but does it support the games native save option? cause in pvr3 i could not save when i tried in monter world. I would select save then turn off the DC then load up again and try and load and it could not find anything.

At the request of BA for his new release of genesisplusdc- if any of you artists can: "draw some (32x32 pixels, 16 colours), feel free. A different one for each game that supports SRAM would be pretty cool. Eyecatch images (the little pictures that appear on the BIOS VMU manager when you have a file selected) might be cool too - they're 72x56 pixels, and can either be 16 color (adds 4 blocks), 256 color (9 blocks), or true colour (16 blocks). Considering their size, I'd probably make them optional."

SRAM GAMES:
- Phantasy Star (Mega Drive)
- Phantasy Star II
- Phantasy Star III
- Phantasy Star IV
- Shining Force
- Shining Force II
- Shining in the Darkness
- Buck Rogers
- Might & Magic
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Wonder Boy in Monster World
- Monster World IV
- Sorcerian
- Shining Aura
- Sword of Vermilion
- Beyond Oasis
- Techno Clash
- Starflight
- Star Control
- Pirates! Gold
- Super Hylide
- Shadowrun
- Gemfire
- Warsong
- Landstalker
- Light Crusader
- King Colossus
- Lord Monarch
- Sonic 3
- Sonic and Knuckles
- Ayrton Senna?s Super Monaco GP II
- NHL '96
- Beggar Prince (Homebrew translated cart)

A different icon for each games' save file? Or generic "Genesis+" icons?

Tell me exactly what and I'll do it :D

A different icon for each save game listed above. A generic one already has been made.

Yeah, they have to be 16 colors, 4 bit.

If you notice, the images I linked above are in fact only 16 color, 4 bit images.

Just because the images lack color doesn't mean they have to lack detail.

BlackAura - can you tell me how I'd go about getting my theme into the emulator (if you're still up for that idea, that is). I'd love to see it running.

I'd guess you'd be better up to that task? How would you like me to send the images - sliced into bits or shall I send the original Photoshop image so you can do that yourself?

Photoshop files would probably be best. Gets around any problems of layering, transparencies, or occasions where I would need to squish or compress something to make it fit.
