I have started to like the Revolution (now Wii...) more and more. Im probably going to get one, but this certainly did not help convincing me more...

Yes it does. If you want major sales, good marketing will always do more than the actual product itself ever will.

No. Thats what will make it sell to the hardcore Nintendo fans. To the average Joe Bloggs they're going to see a weird looking console, with weird controllers, weird games and a weird name.

What's even worse is:

It just sounds so silly. Apparently thats what Nintendo is going for though, because it is like waving a controller around. You look stupid but who cares? You're having fun. I still prefer almost every other name to this but the name doesn't matter.

I once was told long ago by a designer that if you have to explain the reason why your design works, it isn't working. But this same principle can be applied to a name. If Nintendo has to explain to us why 'Wii' is a good choice for a name, it isn't a good name.

The average Joe Bloggs will hear about its features from word of mouth and seeing it action at department stores. No one is going to shy away from this controller, its to intriguing to say, that looks stupid, i'm not even gonna try it out. Plus i'm sure they will ask questions about it when they see it, plus its Nintendo, poeple will look into it.

Its like the iPod, the name is kind of stupid but its now the #1 MP3 player. People buy it because it really does offer the best in MP3 playing, plus its a brand name like Nintendo.

I'm still perplexed by the name. They do seem to be going down the Apple route with their designs at the moment and whilst I find the name a tad silly, it could catch on and it kind of makes you smile when you say it - you have to pull a face while doing it.

Looking forward to the Poo Stick controller.

I don't know about the rest of the world but when someone says that they're going for a "wee" (pronounced the same as Nintendo's Wii) then they're telling you that they're going for a piss.

You just have to give it time for immature people (such as myself) to rip it off to the extent that it isn't funny any more. Then we'll all be happy.

Disney's "Winnie the Pooh" is just the same as "Wee" and people don't rip off Pooh bear much any more.

It's just really really funny, and strange that a company would make their new machine sound like a word for urine, it's an "extremely" common word for urine I might add, it's not as if the term "wee" is hardly used.
