Anyone know how to set a burner SLOWER???

Post by DeAthWaGer »

I have the Sony DVD burner model 810a, I bought it to replace my broken Pioneer burner. I love it, but have one problem. I can't burn discs SLOWER than 12x. It's horrible! My DC and Saturn sound like airplanes taking off and games glitch out or freeze. I've tried Nero, Alcohol, Roxio, and all say 12x or higher.

I don't have any old CDR media to test, but I did notice my old 1x DVD-Rs will only burn a minimum of 2.5x, which also screw up and won't play correctly in my PS2.

GGGRRRRRRR... Any way I can slow the speed down?

Have you tried finding a firmware update for it?

lol, it's okay. I do try quite a bit of homebrew stuff for all systems (mostly DC, Saturn, and Gameboy)... I'd tell the whole story but I'm not sure if that's allowed on these forums... However let's just say most of my money does go to legitimately buying games, nothing beats the satisfaction of owning a game I truly love.

Anyhow, I think I'm going to send a tech support question to Sony...

Ok, I'm NEVER emailing those idiots again... look at the broken english I recieved back from "Stephanie":

"Dear Valued Sony Customer,

We do not recommend having more than one burning software on a system
because the do conflict with each other. If possible please remove all the
software and run the clean tool for nero and roxio. Then reinstall nero and
get the updates. If still not letting you choose a slower speed than that
may not be possible. If the disc that you burned do not play in other
devices make sure the set top player supports the dvd formatt. Also try
playing the disc back in the sony drive. If they play fine in the sony drive
then it may be an issue with the other devices."

That's not so bad really dude. Tech support people literally have seconds to jot out an email, so yeah there's going to by typos.

anyway I looked on the box (duhhhh... i'm smart). It's hard to read because it wouldn't make sense, there's abbreviations for constant linear and angular velocity and all this crap dispursed throughout the description (WHAT AM I VIEWING LASERDISCS???), but it says nothing about being able to burn under 12x for a CD and 2.5x for a DVD...

*sigh* well, guess what I'll do is simply throw out my old 1x DVDRs (I only had a couple left laying around anyhow, and they weren't that reliable anyway), and put my old Pioneer burner back in along with this new Sony JUST SO I can burn CDs slower (the DVD reader/burner in it broke, that's why I bought the Sony). The Pioneer goes down to 4x, which was great for DC/Saturn/PS1/PS2/Sega CD/Turbo Duo/etc...
