What was the first ever emulator for dreamcast and who...

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Wasn't it Gleam, the NES emulator?

Better question. What was the first homebrew of any kind, emu or not? I came into the DC scene way to late to know this info.

I came in way later than you, but...

I'd have to guess Bleamcast was one of the earliest. Other than that, wasn't Feet of Fury one of the first to be packaged on a disc that you can actually buy?

But I'm sure before Bleamcast, there must have been early demos of stuff.

No, I am fairly sure bleemcast was released prior to homebrew software running on the DC. Although the smash pack may have been out before bleemcast (can't remember the release dates).

And it also wasn't an emulator.

The first publically demonstrated emulator was the commercial Playstation emulator bleem! for Dreamcast (bleemcast!) - which was displayed at E3 2000 (created by Rand Linden of Bleem!).

The first released emulator was the NES emulator gleam! by Chuck Mason, released on August 21, 2000.

If you're looking for the first "operational" emulator, b!DC had a couple games running in Dec. 1999 and a public showing at E3 2000.

If you're looking for the earliest that the general public could play with, that was almost certainly a homebrew emulator.

SmashPack's release date is listed as April 25/2001 -- so that's out completely.

Rand.

Heh, yeah. I was editing my post while you posted yours. I went back to look, and had a bit of a laugh at the fact that we posted the same thing at the same time. ;)
