Hmm they've changed it since I made this topic, never used to have to sign up at the steam boards

do not underestimate Crytek...
SS2 is out already, that engine is done, Crytek is still working on their engine, and i have no doubt it will be better
besides, the SS engine is geared towards displaying massive amounts of models on screen, the far cry engine is more geared towards extreme eyecandy and realism, just look at far cry, that game is almost 2 years old now, and still one of the most beautifull out there imho

What?! There was a lawsuit because some disgruntled ex-employee claimed the workers were using illegal versions of some development software. Eventually the cops became involved and raided the offices but everything checked out legit.Nyarlathotep wrote:Crytek were the company that got Ubisoft slapped with massive fines because they had stolen big chunks of the leaked Valve Source engine.

my fault, should have checked, but gamespot has it launching in less then a month (october 10th) so work on the engine should be done already, all recent material is pretty much what we will get from SS2, contrary to those early FC2 screensBlackAura wrote:No it isn't.SS2 is out already, that engine is done

That was what the crytek press release stated.Tall Israeli wrote:Eventually the cops became involved and raided the offices but everything checked out legit.
The POLICE REPORT issued by the POLICE charged them with criminal fraud, and fined Ubisoft an undisclosed 6 figure fine (in euros) for illegal versions of Maya, 3DS Max and the entire leaked Source sourcecode.
Criminal charges were also made along with the civil charge (fine).
Now YOU (and indeed most gaming press) might prefer the Crytek press release to the official police press release (search for wednesday the 4th July 2004), but I have to go with the unbiased police report on this one.
Plus the fact that charges were made, but not dropped, and fines were paid suggests to me that either:
a) Cryteks lawyer really sucks balls
or
b) everything did not turn out 'legit'

That's a lot earlier than I thought.Disheveled DrFreeze wrote:my fault, should have checked, but gamespot has it launching in less then a month (october 10th) so work on the engine should be done already, all recent material is pretty much what we will get from SS2, contrary to those early FC2 screens
Still, you can't really bolt new features onto a game engine at any time, especially considering how much content needs to be created for it.

well, considering the SS2 demo is out already....
and while the core engine cant really be changed, they can still optimize and tweak the engine to great extent, giving better performance or just better visuals
also, crytek did significant work on the far cry engine after release, support for sm3.0 was added, a complete port to 64bit was done..
