Best and Worst times with your DC?

Post by Caboose »

I saw this on another board (IGN, if you want me to be specific. I don't go there, I just saw it while googlin').

In order:

Worst: Going to every store I could and none of them having a Dreamcast, then the same day, while looking for a Dremcast the clerk said that they weren't being made anymore.

Best: 2 years later buying a DC from lik-sang (although overpriced) and playing it for the first time. I remember the day like it was yesterday, even though it was a year ago.

I still have many more good times to come with my Dreamcast. I used to think the DC sucked because I believed the PS2 hype, but I played it at a firends house and that immediately made me change my mind. I don't know how many times we played through that Sonic Adventure demo trying to beat each others records.

Anyone else care to share their best and worst Dreamcast experiences? If either of your experiences involve a game, please, please keep it spoiler free.

Worst: My first DC crapping out on me.

Best: Pulling an all nighter and beating Grandia II, all while my roomate begged for me to get off of the tv so he could play xbox.

Worst: when, after almost 5 years, 3rd Strike came out for PS2 and Xbox. I liked the fact that I was the only one to have it home.

Best: playing Shenmue for the first time. I was fascinated. The freedom was everything. I'd open and close the fridge, turn the light switches, pick up the phone; and after an hour I'd go outside

Worst: The time when I played Resident Evil: CV and the game would get stuck because it isn't able to load some new scenes, while the discs (original copies) are unscratched.

Best: I think it was getting my GF interested in videogames by showing her the DC is so much more than the Xbox games her brother plays: Showed her NesterDC, and after that we finished Skies of Arcadia together. Playing one short part without her wasn't a wise idea. That was also the only time I lost a savegame on my 3rd party memcard.

Other good times: Experiencing Shenmue/MGS/Grandia 2. Simply being wowed by the true beauty of an old system, it's style.

Worst: When Sega announced it was stopping with the Dreamcast (obvious one ;))

Best: They day when I received my import copy of Soul Calibur (JAP) and me and my friends started playing. Everybody was like: "WTF... this game rocks the shit out of me... " We instantly stopped playing Tekken 3 or Virtua Fighter 3TB.

And all the memories of Sonic Adventure, House of the Dead 2 (we're still playing it weekly), Ready 2 Rumble (with friends its a good laugh!) and last but not least:
playing PSO online! That was my first online experience on a console and it changed my perception on gaming. Period.

Yay! another list thread....

Best:
when capcom made games for the dc
when I first got my dc at launch
when I first chipped my console for imports

Worst:
when I first realized how poorly built and problematic the console can be
when sega first announced that they were leaving the hardware biz
when those damn german hackers first hacked the dc and began selling bootlegs; thus costing sega lots of money
when sony (whom I HATE), was outselling the dc
when dc didn't come with dvd playback.....
when I FIRST sold my dc, and regreted it when I found out about the loyal community of modders, etc.....

First off smiley rulez for not loving a company that I hate as well (Sony Sux) with that being said I will name a couple good times and bad.

Best : Recieving it March 17th of 2001
Playing it 3 hours before I would have to get up for work.
Sonic Adventure and Soul Caliber were the most played games for me.

Worst
When my First dc's F1 resistor blew (never got it repaired, I don't know how >_<)
the Decision of my gaming store of ridding all the Dc software (NOOOOOOOOOO!)
The D-Pad became loose (I still need a buy a new controller with a Stiff D-Pad)
When Games are bought at stores and the DC for whatever reason doesn't work.
Have you played dreamcast today?

Yeah, I loved that too.

It's sad that Sega USA closed down their servers so early. Btw, the official european and japanese servers are *still* online. I just checked, 8 ships, and 7 players in total. Anyway, there's the homebrew server to play on now so it doesn't really matter anymore.

I got mine from a dutch webshop ( http://www.futuremax.nl ), I just checked and they only have PSOv1 :( I guess they don't have v2 anymore... They do have Bleemcast for anyone interested.

Best Times:

Giving in to my temptation to get a brand new DC after the first Capcom VS Snk came out! I was trying to wait for the Cube but alas it was too far away and Sega had all the cool arcade games! I was in paradise that day! I picked up a DC, SFA3, SF3rd Strike and CvS.

Losing my job, signing up for "Sega-net", picking up Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 and playing online everyday for almost 3 weeks. It was my first online console gaming experienced and I loved it! It "seems" like I can't get into online gaming like that anymore. Maybe it was special, or maybe it was just new and exciting to me.

Worst Times:

Sega-net being shut down

Dreamcast being discontinued

Spending a fortunte for a bba only to find out hardly anyone played online with DC games anymore
