a 94 sundance (the 'girly' version of the duster) with 50,000 miles has a blue book of about $1500 private party.

We have a dealership with one in my preferred color, and low miles and all for $2747.

Needs some repairs, like new hatch lifters and a new stereo.

I'd go for a european car if it's in the budget. A Volvo 850 Turbo would be nice, or a VW. A Subaru also sounds like a good choice though, we almost got one over our VW Passat.

Get a 1990 (yr?) Subaru SVX if you can find one. Else, get a Honda. Screw Fords and SUVs.

I found this 2001 Daewoo Leganza. Epinions are had mostly good things to say about it, and a kid in my Journalism class said that GM bought them a few years back, so it's mostly domestic parts inside. Does anyone else know anything about these?
