I think you're saying that those pics are DC rendered scenes. I dunno about that. The last two have to be FMV at least.

the last two pics are from the "what's shenmue" demo disc (and i believe can also be found on the shenmue 1 passport. you can actually zoom and rotate them so it's realtime calc.

i guess doa2 should be listed here too...

The last two were essentially an answer to all the PS2 hype at the time.

To answer the question at hand, Did the Dreamcast's Power Get Used 100%? No. Reports were that it could potentially render up to 8 million polygons with the correct programming. Most games only pushed up to around 3-5 million, tops. And this was in the best of the best graphical releases for the DC.

I think, if the system was still in production, and developers were still making games for it--big name games, with millions of dollars going into them--they would be comparable to what the best of the current gen has to offer.

I agree. I was playing Resident evil 4 the other day and way thinking about how sweet it looked, then today I played shenmue. Sure resident Evil 4 looks better but shenmue didn't look like utter crap compared to it. I just wish that we could have seen what the DC could really could have done, graphics wise. Oh well...

thats the problem anymore no one developes for these systems to their full potential then within 4 yrs they're looking develope for the new systems.

i agree the DC if used to its full power could rival a lot of the current gen stuff. imagine if a company like Rare developed for the DC considering they are known for picking apart a system ,and developing a game to the systems potential.

just like cube granted there are a lot of great looking games ,and a lot of the best ones really compete with xbox's games ,but if developers really put the time into using the cubes power im sure it could have games that would blow away xbox.

i liked when developers took their time with games so what if it took 2 or 4 yrs to put out the title at least when it came out you knew it was quality. now its more quanity than quality. and, because of that a lot of great games go under the radar like prince of persia sands of time...beyond good and evil when they came they went under the radar because of that. its a shame.

Exactly, they have less that they're actually rendering.

I just popped Shenmue passport in. And besides rendering the head, I also remembered that it renders most of (if not all) the upper body and the surrounding environment too.

Still truly amazing :D

Haha, yeah, I was about to mention that. I think the whole model is in there though... if there was a way to view the model files we could find out for sure tho.

I'm still amazed by the graphics on the DC... I think they still look great.

I think it is a shame that Sega don't build a new system based on the DC Specs giving it more memory both main and video and a DVD-ROM instead of a GD-ROM and of course make it harder to hack and play back-ups on that for me is what killed the DC, the ease of how games were copied and no Mod-Chip needed to play them.

I think the DC is still up there with today's machine and I truly believe the DC has better graphs than the PS2, I find the PS2 graphs slightly fuzzy and the DC Power VR chip a better graphics chip.

It's a real shame the DC just wasn't given a chance by the consumer and all those bloody Sony fanboys just holding off buying a DC in favour of waiting for the PS2 to be released when it came out, of which I knew many ppl that did.

Long live the DC! :D
Regards.

CyberMick.

My memory of those talking heads from Shenmue is that while the rest of the upper bodies are there and can be seen, they're not actually moving or anything. In fact not even the whole heads move, only the faces and hair, so I'd wager that those are the only things that are really modeled. Everything else is just a texture map. They're still pretty impressive, though; especially when you remember that they come from 1998 before the Dreamcast was even released, so they're absolutely first generation techniques.

Also, those shots from Soul Calibur are pretty dull compared to some that I've seen.

I never thought Sonic adventure 2 was all that great looking. PSO was more impressive, especially some of the rooms in the Caves.

Metropolis Street Racer is really nice. Skies of Arcadia

Also, people never mention 2D games when they talk about a system's graphical power, but Marvel vs. Capcom 2, all the Street Fighter 3 games, Psyvariar 2, Ikaruga (which is 3D technically, I suppose), etc. are all really impressive stuff.

What about TXR2?
And F355?
There is a little unpopular game that shows more textures than all the PS2 games called Evil Twin.
