Why france hates us.
Post WWII
The Suez crisis 1956
Considered to be the most significant turning point in post-war British foreign policy, the Suez Crisis refers to the British decision to join with France and Israel in a military intervention to attempt to prevent General Nasser from nationalising the Suez Canal in the autumn of 1956. Nasser was promoting Arab nationalism throughout the Middle East and had become an increasing source of irritation to the British and the French.
The Anglo-French assault upon Egypt, which began on 31 October 1956, provoked a furious response from the USA. President Eisenhower's condemnation of the attack triggered a sterling crisis which forced the government to withdraw from the venture. This angered the French, and further revealed Britain's growing dependence on the support of the US.
So the French got pissed that we didn't back them. It actually seems like history is repeating itself. Now its the US and the UK in the middle east and France is trying to stop us. History always interests me. I am beginning to get a little worried about US power in the world. It seems we are following in the British foot steps. Fighting to many wars and trying to expand our influence to fast. I noticed the article said Britain at that time was very dependent on us I think that has changed now. I think we would be screwed if the UK and Australia stopped helping us.That said I still think the war was the right thing to do but it was done wrong and its costing us way to much money.

The EU is...idealistic to say the least. I'd still LIKE to see a world federation similar to it but i know it's unlikely.
History always interests me
apparently its interesting to you but you learn nothing from it. If you really are a history connoisseur which I highly doubt, you'd see that the British tried to bring democracy to Iraq and failed miserably. Matter of fact, the head of the puppet government they installed (you know like Allawi), was manually ripped into pieces by a mob of Iraqis. Basically what already happened (failure) and what is happen-ing bears numerous similarities, so its beyond me why someone will support such a thing. Well someone who isnt a damn idiot i.eI still think the war was the right thing to do
French Connection United Kingdom should be renamed to French Union Connection Klothing

I'm pretty sure he was being sardonic.OneThirty8 wrote:Actually, I think the general attitude is that we've got bigger guns, so if they don't listen we'll just kill them.Roofus wrote:We're American. The Iraqis will listen to us.
How to be a Conservative:
You have to believe everything that has ever gone wrong in the history of your country was due to Liberals.

I actually liked the french untill one thing they did (well the gov't did, not the people) They tested Nukes in the ocean not to long ago. We know what the effects were, and they broke a lot of rules doing it. If any other country did it people would have swept in, and kicked their collective asses.Lartrak wrote:I think a better question is why the US hates France.

I think there was one they did in the Alantic also, but I can't find the info for them.
As for the people. The few times I have had the pleasure of talking to one (when I still knew french) was very enjoyable.
But just remember kids, Bringing the french into battle is as usefull as taking an acordian into battle. (I know I butchered that quote.)

What, hopelessly wastefull of taxpayers money, corrupt & trying to impose their will on others?Ender wrote:The French are one of the most mis-represented peoples on the planet. The french have always ignored rules when it suits them, witness all those highly illegal port blockades froma few years back, the sheep burning, the continual ban on our beef etc.. its probably easier to list rules they havent brokenOrange_Ribbon wrote:I actually liked the french untill one thing they did (well the gov't did, not the people) They tested Nukes in the ocean not to long ago. True it'd be better all round if we could level it & do away with it, less springboard for bloody illegals to try to get in here as well that way, it'd also make a new bit of sea to help stop the bloody spanish from nicking our fishmattcky666 wrote:its ok for the US to hate france though - u have a huge section of water in between the countries...we, the British, have a crappy channel blocking us from FrogLand. I can't speak to the corruption, however, socialism can work if managed properly. It does not need to be "hopelessly wastefull of taxpayers money."Hawq wrote:What, hopelessly wastefull of taxpayers money, corrupt & trying to impose their will on others?Ender wrote:The French are one of the most mis-represented peoples on the planet. You say that as though the Brits haven't broken the rules, or the Americans, or basically any of the 5 "Superpowers." Hell, Canada has been fighting the US for years over illegal tarriffs and border blockades.Hawq wrote:The french have always ignored rules when it suits them, witness all those highly illegal port blockades froma few years back, the sheep burning, the continual ban on our beef etc.. its probably easier to list rules they havent brokenOrange_Ribbon wrote:I actually liked the french untill one thing they did (well the gov't did, not the people) They tested Nukes in the ocean not to long ago. Or even that the war in Iraq didn't actually create war crimes on the behalfs of the US and Brits.
