What kind of LEDs does everyone use?

Post by Excalibur007 »

Hi,
What kind of LEDs does everyone use?
I use the blue LEDs (3.7v 2600 mcd) from Radio Shack. Is there a better one that anyone reccommends? These are not very bright, although I have gotten them to look pretty good with a little extra effort. I paint the inside of the clear plastic lens (only what's beneath the case) with anodized blue paint and leave the new LED raised a bit to be closer to the lens. Without doing this, the blue is hard to see in daylight, but after doing this, it looks good even in daylight.
Tis my sig.

Get LEDs on ebay. You can get 50 packs of super bright blue LEDs from Hong Kong for like $8 including shipping.

Yes definitely do this, save the 5 bucks for one LED from Radioshack and buy anywhere from 20 to 50 with it (not including shipping)

Thanks a lot guys! That 5 bucks a pop at Radio Shack gets expensive after a while. I'll definitely take your advice. ;)

edit: Just one more question. I went to the link listed and found these: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/c ... type=store
It says they are "ultrabright" but the mcd rating is only 1500 compared the the ones I've gotten in the past that are 2600, (which aren't very bright). Can anyone vouche for these, or should I look elsewhere?
Xylene, do you have a link to where you get yours?

They are the LEDs I use. Look for some pictures of my Dreamcast in this forum and you'll see what they look like.
