Bill Gates shows us today exactly how the Xbox copy protection works.

"Look on the left side of the disc", he tells us, "and you will see 'Do not make illegal copies of this disc'. That's what this copy protection is about. I've sent a force of 47 'crackers' out to crack this protection, and none so far have accomplished the task. It's specially designed for when a pirate firsts decides to copy the disc. When he sees the notice, he quickly changes his mind because the disc's notice tells him to do so."

I had the urge to try to backup DOA3... but I couldn't because I saw the notice. Works great!

Update:

"We have sent 348 more crackers out there to crack it", says Gates, "So far, all original 47 and 156 of the new ones have died trying to accomplish this task. These crackers do not work for Microsoft. One cracker did attempt to crack it, however. We have put him to death, and the information on how did not leak. Just to make sure, we've added additional protection. The discs now read, "Do not make illegal copies of this disc because it's bad for you".

I will keep you updated.
