Rand had stated that they had had problems with dirty disc copies of that game - try giving your copy a clean.

If the video stops playing in the middle, it's likely that there's a scratch(es) or error(s) on the disc that's uncorrectable.

Normally, b!DC tries to read (and re-read) for a while until it gets the data correctly (which means that if it's having trouble, you'll notice that the videos, and sometimes the BG music, will stutter, or slowdown, or pause) -- but if it does succeed eventually, it will continue playing.

When b!DC gets an error that the DC GDROM unit can't correct after a number of attempts, we report that back to the game, and the game will then stop playing the video and go to the main menu. (When the MGS into is playing, try popping the disc, etc. and you'll notice that it does the same thing).

This behaviour is by-design, and is in the games themselves to prevent locking up the machine if a disc is damaged simply because it couldn't play the video, cutscene, etc. It's a sign of good coding on the part of the game programmers -- which is always nice to see... some early titles would crash if videos went ponky, etc...

Rand.
