That's awful.

Hmm... I know these HD re-releases are a quick cash grab, but I can't say the change in fog density detracted from my enjoyment of the game. Maybe because I didn't play the originals?

Either way, I think it's a stretch to say this re-release is awful just because of this minor change. Most of the game is played in-doors anyway.

Edit: I should note that there is an annoying re-occurrence in SH3, where the game experiences random half-second lags that occur when your walking. It doesn't happen a whole lot, but I would think it's often enough to not be ignored from a developer's standpoint.

I dunno. The HD version clearly looks worse in all those pics - and the only point of an HD version is that it looks better. Luckily I have an old PS3 and can just BC the original PS2 ones. 8-)

Anyway, I already made a thread for nobody to reply to but...Journey - amazing experience. Definitely my GOTY so far...although that isn't saying much as everything's been nothing but disappointments so far for me.

Waiting on 360 version of The Witcher 2.

Silent Hill 2 (12hrs).

So I completed Silent Hill 3 on Saturday. This HD re-release of SH3 also suffered from crashes. It locked up my 360 about 5 times in total, which really pissed me off every time. That aside, SH3 is just not as good as SH2. However, there are some new surprises it brought to the table, which was really cool. Controls still suck. Good dialogue overall. Intriguing story. A bit short.

Silent Hill 3 (7hrs 45min).
6/10

I decided to read up a bit on the SH games and found out that SH3 was a direct sequel to the original (I didn't know that prior to playing). So I ended up grabbing a copy of Silent Hill for PSX. At first it felt a little dated and that it wasn't going to deliver the same level of intensity as 2 and 3. But after an hour I was hooked. Overall, I definitely enjoyed the original more so than 2 and 3. The dialogue was ok (sometimes good and sometimes a bit corny). I felt the same about the monsters (most were good, but the original dogs and flying hell bat things made me mad). The controls sucked, but running felt quicker. Overall the game felt well paced, and was never boring. The story was fantastic. I found out towards the end of the game, that some of the things you did during the game actually has an affect on the ending. So as such, there are four different endings: Bad Ending, Bad+ Ending, Good Ending and Good+ Ending. I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed the original.

Silent Hill - PlayStation (14hrs)
8.5/10

Given the review scores I've seen for installments after SH3, I don't think I'll be playing any others.

Since I haven't posted in this topic since November, I thought I would list a few things I bought in the last couple of months:

Xenoblade Chronicles (Wiii)
Playstation Vita
Touch My Katamari (PSV)
Rayman Origins (Both 360 and PSV)
Dynasty Warriors Next (PSV)
Jak and Daxter Collection (PS3)
Tales of the Abyss (3DS)
Mass Effect 1 and 2 (360)
...and probably a Steam game or two.

SNES
- first-model system with 2 controllers, 2 third-party controllers, and Super Game Boy
- Castlevania 4

Nintendo 64
- system with 2 controllers, 1 third-party controller (which I actually like better), expansion pak, memory card, rumble
- 007 Goldeneye
- Banjo-Kazooie
- Castlevania
- Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
- Conker's Bad Fur Day

- Super Mario 64
- Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
- WaveRace 64
- Yoshi's Story

We're pretty much done with the NES; I think there are four or five games left that we want to get. There's still a handful of N64 and Genesis/CD titles we'd like (plus we don't have a 32x to play that Star Wars game), and the SNES is about done *except* for RPGS (which we're a bit lacking in currently; they're the pricy ones, which don't tend to show up in thrift stores or bargain Craigslist/yard sale finds).

We have a Dreamcast arriving next week, so I'll add that stuff then. I'm meeting someone tomorrow to buy his collection of Dreamcast games, which should give me just about every US-released title I want, which means it's time to start bargain-hunting the import titles.

Eva has expressed interest in playing Panzer Dragoon Saga, which means we may also be getting a Saturn in the not-too-distant future... though it looks like Saturn games are disproportionately expensive, even the more common and less desirable ones.

It's taken us a year or two (and a LOT of time haunting thrift stores and Craigslist) to get this collection put together, but I think it's getting pretty formidable. I'm also eyeing RetroUSB's English translations of Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia for SNES, though they're pretty expensive ($70 and $65 each, respectively).

If anyone's got stuff to sell (particularly SEGA Saturn gear, though I can provide a list of what we're looking for on other platforms as well), let me know. Eva recently started a new job, so to celebrate we've sort of been in acquisition mode. We've also got a handful of duplicate and unwanted titles to sell or trade.

Mario Kart 7. I've always liked the series, this one is virtually identical to the last few.
Been enjoying Fez too, good stuff.

I just sold my copy of Mario Kart 7 this week. I think I played it once, but it really didn't seem like anything spectacular. Just like the last few weren't

I hated the new super Mario.bros game for 3ds. The Mario game Atari made for the 2600 was funner.

I love the one for the Wii and even the one for the ds, but it playing through the levels of the one for the 3ds it seemed uninspired. Like its all been done.

I would admit that it did feel more like an "extra levels" expansion pack than an actual sequel. But I still quite enjoyed it.

Exactly. Sonic generations and sonic the hedgehog 4 at least attempted to pump new ideas into the tired 2d scrolled.

But they were crap, at least you know what you're going to get with a 2d Mario game. Lets face it if nintendo changed things too much then fans would moan, Sunshine wasn't a bad game but it still received a battering for basically trying to be different.
