Dreamcast 2 Launch Details

The Dreamcast 2 is scheduled to launch a couple of months after Sony's PlayStation 4. However, Sega's secretly planning on surprising everyone (including the developers), and will be launching it a month before the PlayStation 4. This will make the developers very happy, and will ensure that the Dreamcast 2 will be a worldwide success.

No it fucking doesn't. The 2 isn't lined up properly so it looks like the Sega Sammy 2 Dreamcast. The overuse of blue LEDs make it tacky as shit. WTF are those crappy inputs on the top. Why is the Dreamcast 2 logo a rip off of the Halo 2 logo. Who the fuck wants the Compact Disc logo lit up on an electronics device these days. It's gay and for gays.

Sega could never hope to compete with the other systems with a number that is inferior to their competitor's number. If Microsoft would've named the Xbox 360 the Xbox 2 then they likely would've been crushed by the PS3 (See Dreamcast v. PS2). Either Sega calls it the Dreamcast 4 or it will just be another failed venture.

Therefore Naomi 2 implies a Dreamcast 2 generation.

Therefore Atomiswave, the Dreamcast derivative that succeeded Naomi 2, implies a Dreamcast 3 generation.

Therefore the next Dreamcast generation is Dreamcast 4.

The above is no more ridiculous than saying that Dreamcast is a "128-bit" system, therefore it is well within the limits of console marketing standards.

Very close, but..

1) This was in reference to what Sega did with the Saturn. Last minute, (I believe it was E3 of May 1995) Sega surprise launched the Saturn. The purpose was to beat the launch of the PSX by several months (PSX launching in September, which was also the same month the Saturn was supposed to launch). This resulted in a terrible launch, (poor games and selection) and royally pissed off the developers which were counting on those extra few months for development time.

2) Sega did not rush the Dreamcast. I even remember them developing the VR graphics processor with NEC, rather then just accepting what 3DFX was willing to provide them with (which is why EA pulled out support). However, Sega did have to release the system soon because the Saturn practically stopped selling in 1998. But the Dreamcast had a great launch because the timing was fine.



Anyways, back on topic.

Well, you could consider the DC "rushed out" in that they cut short the life of the Saturn to bring the DC out. The DC wasn't rushed in terms of design - it's perhaps SEGA's finest console; the only complaints I've heard are (in order) the loud fan, the lack of a DVD drive, and the VMU eats batteries. I really like the design. I like the looks, too - very stylish.

Anywho, yes, the joke fits the Saturn better in the "surprise" release sense. I thought it a very good joke.

Sega just need to fill the gap between smartphone gaming and console gaming. If they can produce an HD games console with a simcard slot that can receive text messages in-game and constantly posts everything you do to Twitter....$$$$$$

They have something very close to that. Originally the feature was called Sega Texting Service, but now its been shortened to Sexting. Sega believes its going to be a huge hit, and they're hoping to attract a lot of new people to gaming, including state congressmen.

Hell, sega didn't only piss off devs with the saturn. They fucking pissed off retailers by giving them no fucking time to deal with the damn thing. Some stores even REFUSED shipments of the thing. Oh, and to make matters even worse segas big announcement was overshadowed by the psx being 100 dollars less. Oh, the saturn was also a bitch to program for making developers loathe it even more.
