BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
I like movies, but I never watch them. I've compiled a list of movies that are supposedly great, but I haven't seen. There's a lot. I'm going to use the power of weak Chinese copyright laws to stream them all online and watch as many as I can, then give you an authoritative decision on whether they're as good as people say or total fucking shit.
Here is the list. You're welcome to suggest other movies I may have missed, but its more likely they're just not on here because I've already seen them.

Re: BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
I've only seen 7 of those movies. I thought 12 Angry Men, The Godfather, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rocky, and This is Spinal Tap were great movies. Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Big Lebowksi were pretty underwhelming.

OK. I just finished 12 Angry Men. My first ever black and white movie. I loved it. Very character driven and believable plot. I give it 9 corks out of 11.

Re: BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
It's generally regarded as a "great" movie so I put it on there.DanteJay wrote:Brokeback Mountain is on your to watch list? Really?
Just finished 2001: A Space Odyssey
I'm conflicted. The middle of the film was cool to watch and defined a range of cultural references in other shows for me which was nice. The end was a total fucking disaster though. I despise having to interpret stuff, if you've got a story to tell just tell it. I watched some of the slow artsy fartsy scenes on 2x as well - kinda pointless and not as impressive as they probably were in the 1960s. Overall though...I guess I enjoyed it more than I thought I would though so yeah...7 Corks out of 11.

This reminds me, a couple of friends and I watched Airplane for the first time three weeks ago. There were a few moments that had us in tears! I was always told by my parents that it was a stupid movie, but they just didn't get the humor at the time. Now that I watched it, it's still a stupid movie... But a funny one.

What the fuckaroo are you talking about. I am BoneyFuckingCork and what I say goes. You will take the opinions I shove down your throat and treat them as fact. Don't you dare cross me again otherwise you will face the consequences. You will face them good. Oh yes.Jeeba Jabba wrote:BoneyCork wrote:but I never watch them.

Re: BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
OK I finished Alien. Man, what a crock of shit. I knew actiony/sci-fi movies would age the worst and this movie is a good example of that. With no real plot you've only got the special effects to entertain you, and they're not going to manage that in these days of computers and Michael Bays.

Re: BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
After starting this thread I really got into movies as I found them a far more convenient way of passing the time than videogames when you have a baby in the house, because they require less commitment and are easier to pause/stop. Seriously, I have since set about using a free iTunes alternative to make a huge xbmc library of movies and I'm at about 470ish right now. I'd say on average I'm watching 2 a day - always at least 1.
I've seen loads of films on this list and many more that aren't on it. Really enjoying my new hobby.
As for the mini-reviews...fuck it. I never follow through on anything so this shouldn't come as a surprise.
For the record, the last movie I watched was 25th Hour. I liked it.

Re: BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
Even if the project has been abandoned, these should be on your list:
Metropolis (the silent film, not the anime... though I suppose you could go ahead and add the anime as well. They're both completely different films, though, with little in common except the title and a few general themes)
The Great Dictator
The Third Man

Re: BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
When my son was born, I switched to playing games that were easy to play one handed so I could hold and feed him while I played. I put 70 hours of level grinding in Final Fantasy X just to beat Penance. I played a lot of point and click games like Sam and Max, Riven, and Neverhood. And I played iPhone games a lot.BoneyCork wrote:After starting this thread I really got into movies as I found them a far more convenient way of passing the time than videogames when you have a baby in the house, because they require less commitment and are easier to pause/stop.
But I also majorly got into watching television shows. We don't have cable or even an antenna, so we got a Blu-Ray player that had Netflix streaming. For the first year of my son's life, the only show we watched was all 10 seasons of Law and Order SVU.
Now that he's nearly 2, though, I've once again stopped watching TV shows completely and am back to playing whatever. It's funny how I completely changed the way I structured my free time when my son was born.

Re: BoneyCork's Movie Fun Club Challenge
I just saw my first movie a few weeks ago. I was amazed with how well it told a story, and how much space it allows artists for expression and growth. More exciting than the Bible!
