In a bit of luck, I got a new SNES controller and Metroid 2 (for Game Boy) at the thrift store. Someone in our neighborhood was giving away a 27" Sony Trinitron (one of the really good ones from the early 90s), so all the cartridge-based consoles have been shifted to that.

Here's our new (free!) TV:

So Gamestop is supposed to have a B2G2 on all their PS2, Gamecube, and GBA games starting on April 18th. Except apparently the Gamestop didn't pay attention to the date of their signs and started selling them that price anyway. So I got:

Rogue Galaxy (complete)
Star Ocean: Til The End of Time (disc only)
Radiata Stories (disc only)
Magna Carta (disc only)

All for $24. Seemed like a good deal to me.

Picked up World of Keflings apart of all the stuff on sale on the marketplace right now.

Got talked into trying the demo yesterday and already pumped in a lot of hours. I usually hate god/stat building games, but this is so what I've been needing in a game. Something to relax, unwind into and just play/progress.

Woah, thanks for the tip. Maybe now is the time to look out for more desirable GC/PS2 games that they still sell for full price. :P

Gamestop started a B2G1 on all Used games and accessories. I picked up RockBand3 (while trading in RB2) Mass Effect, and Mass effect 2.

Have to be careful with these type of sales at gamestop though, as they like to raise the price on things they know will sell.

I try my hardest not to read reviews before games come out because I worry I end up playing something with the expectation of the final score - not giving it a fair chance. Sometimes though I really wish I had read some warnings first. I've been a bit busy with ipads and phones of late so held off on getting Dragon Age II until now. What a fucking crock of shit dissapointment this game is. I'm having a hard time coming up with any sequel that has let me down more than this. I can almost forgive the watered-down button-mashing battle system - but the rest of the game is pisswank.

I found a broken statue toe on a mountain and delivered it to a Dwarf for 50 silver. That was a sidequest in my journal. He said "thanks". There's a ton of shit "quests" like this. Rape MMORPGS for all their "kill xx monsters" quests if you must - but at least I might die or something, and perhaps get a piece of armour worth equipping. Everyone in this game won't help you unless you do something tedious for them. Where's the "freedom to develop your own character" that Bioware proudly claim turns all of their RPGs into something much better than what Japan farts out. Why can't I steal that guy's maps? The evil dialog option is there, but it just conveniently loops round to the same quest. In this one I had to go run through 2 city areas to watch a scene. Oooooh. This is the worst implementation of a quest system I have ever witnessed.

On top of that...you don't fucking go anywhere. World exploration seems like the staple of the RPG genre to me. Do you remember that awesome feeling when you played FF7, and after spending 6+ hours in Midgar, starting to feel a bit tired, you suddenly stepped out into this huge world map? Now consider a game where that never happens. Within a couple of hours you'll have unlocked the city, and 2 outside areas. 10 hours later I was still there, with every dull quest conveniently needing me to go to the same fucking place I'd just been to. Google says I'll never be anywhere else. Great.

"There's bandits in Sundermount, we must go kill them!"
"Actually I was just there before you joined my party and I cleared out the place"
"But they are there now, because we just had this conversation!"
"Oh...OK"

It goes on like this. It's not even like the areas are very interesting. A dreary green rock and a beach. If you're going to skimp on content put some damn effort into what you keep. To piss you off more they add all these damn codex entries to read that talk about amazing places you can never go to. I doubt the tease of the world seen through barred-windows makes prisoners feel very happy.

I loved the first one. This is shite. Don't get it. Fuck you Bioware. Suck my balls.

I'm finally nearing the true ending on my first playthrough (there's apparently 4 "true" endings). I'd rate it slightly better than the second game (which I enjoyed more than the first one, in all honesty). Only real thing that bothered me was the repetitiveness of the "boss" battles.

Also, fair warning, don't install any of the Binary World DLC until after you can actually use it. I'd give a better description of when you can install it, but I'd rather not give anything away. If you have installed some of the Binary World DLC (the first part of it is free), you should delete your install data using the Game Data Utility (the save files are fine, regardless). You'll have to sit through the installation again, but at least you won't miss anything.

NISA really seems to have a problem with not breaking the Ar tonelico games in translation... At least its not as bad as the bug in Ar tonelico II.

Hit up another Gamestop today for another B2G2 on PS2 games (since it officially started today):

Arc the Lad: End of Darkness
Okage: Shadow King
Musashi: Samurai Legend
Front Mission 4

All for $10

Also preordered Portal 2 for PC at Best Buy. $35 and with a free $10 gift card, making it actually $25.

Just spend 30 minutes with the 3DS.
Maxed out - gave me a headache
Anything less - can't really notice the 3D effect

I use the word "effect", because that's what it felt like. Even games like Monkeyball, that are supposed to look the best, seemed to lack the depth I've come to expect from a made-for-imax movie. Didn't really see the point in having it on at all to be honest. Just going to have to hope for some decent games now. Pretty underwhelming first impression. :(

Agreed. That's what basically convinced me to buy it, even though I don't generally enjoy that type of game much...
