After a few delays this morning, the much anticipated Kickstarter campaign to fund Elysian Shadows has finally gone live!

Image

The rewards for funding the project stretch from a simple thank you to digital goodies related to the game, beta access, physical and signed copies of the game, Adventures in Game Development on DVD and other limited edition physical goodies, all the way up to being able to contribute your own ideas (items, NPCs, enemies, etc.) to Elysian Shadows, getting to meet the team in person at their home base in Huntsville, AL, and if you're really feeling generous, a custom Dreamcast or Ouya console, and even an original painting of a scene from the game!

Image

Read the Kickstarter and open your wallet! I have already pledged a large sum. I'm personally hoping we hit that mark for the user generated content, which will certainly have a huge impact on our scene (as if the main game won't already!).

I was planning on updating my previous post with the link.
Can you merge?

30,000. That's 1/5th in less than 12 hours.

I've been following this for an absolute age (I think we all have) and it's great to see this game finally take the next step. I'll definitely be throwing some money in. The Kickstarter video looks brilliant.

That said, I'm not sure about some of the stretch goals after $300,000. I guess they were added more for fun as the chances of getting up that high are pretty slim, but sometimes these crowdfunding things just blow-up and i think I'd prefer the game without Pokemon and MMO features.

I would like local co-op though...why so high up?

It's always like this at the beginning, so it's not very surprising.

Maybe some major portions of the game would have to be redesigned for it to work well.

Stayed up watching the live stream until about 3AM when the kickstarter went live. Glad to see you guys are off to a good start.

I've talked to many of my friends about the game and trying to pass information along.

I wonder if they reached out to any of the linux gaming communities, they are usually pretty generous when it comes to a game being native and not just packaged with WINE. I really want to see this succeed. I have been watching these guys for years and I really hope to see things work out for them.

and of course I really want to play the game!

So you are Nick? I saw your question concerning DCEmu and I was wondering who that was.

That's actually a really good point. The Linux community has been treated much better lately with Steam and all, but it still needs as many titles as it can get. I bet there would be a lot of support for this project in that community.

Haha yea that was me. Though I don't think Falco ever saw it, there were more interesting programming questions to answer than some DCemu antics. 8-)

I check pretty often too.

Destructoid did a short article about AiGD awhile back. I'm hoping they report something on the kickstarter to keep this thing moving. Anyone here going to crash Falcos couch?

I donated $500 but I put it towards The Architect, not The Experience. I told Falco that if I get a chance to come crash on his couch I'm just gonna drive up there and fucking do it anyway. He's only like 4 hours away from me.

Orly? 33.5k in 24 hours is impressive by any measure. We did exceptionally well within the first 24 hours.

Thank all of you for your support, we really appreciate it. The key is now to keep gaining momentum within gaming communities, and hopefully somehow reach out and get coverage from the "bigger" gaming sites. We just got a very flattering article written on us by the official OUYA folks, which brought quite a few backers today, but we have to maintain the momentum. A project like ours can still flatline and fall short of the goal, so we're all trying to stay freaked out and not get cocky... If any of you have any media contacts or can promote us in any way, please let me know!

I think he means that it's unsurprising that you did so well, because it's always good in the beginning and gets harder as time goes by. Which is my assessment as well, but at roughly $50K in a few days, it seems to be going pretty strong still, but there's a long way to go.

Check your PMs ;)

To summarize some feedback I've gotten from people I've shown the Kickstarter page:
- will the camera be fixed (i.e. in 3d) in some scenes? or can it be adjusted by the user? could it still be played in classic 2d if the user preferred that style?
- will the art style change or is it final ?
- will animations be improved ?
- what part of the game is still going to be changed and what part is (more or less) finalized?

I say make regular (video) updates clarifying user questions like these and present them at Kickstarter for people to look up. Remember, not everyone of us is checking live streams.

I talk with experience, our project got funded via kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gc ... g-handheld

Kickstarter projects always have three phases:
- the launch, where everybody who were waiting for the project page to appear will pledge,
- the middle of the campaign, where the amount of money raised increases very slowly,
- the end, where all the pledges come from people who discovered the project during phase 2.

Phase 1 is over, you are at phase 2 right now. From what I can see, the speed dropped considerably (you got like $3k in the past 24h) which is expected. What is extremely important now, is to get the maximum press coverage, that's a critical point if you don't want to fail. You have the strength of targetting multiple scenes, use that as an advantage. That will decide what happens during the end phase.
