Yabause 0.9.11 Released

Post by BlueCrab » Sun Nov 27, 2011 7:17 pm

The Yabause team has released version 0.9.11 of our Sega Saturn emulator. There have been plenty of changes made to the emulator since its last release over two and a half years ago. There haven't been all that many changes that are in the Dreamcast version beyond the normal slew of general updates, at least none that made it into the binary that's released yet. I wasn't about to let that stand in the way though of delivering the core updates that have come with the rest of the release.

Anyway, you can grab the Dreamcast version from the Sourceforge download page here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/yabause ... 2/download

Or you can grab the source code and all the other versions from the Yabause download page:

Nice one, Crab. Thanks for the update. How's speed? (I know it's far from being playable)

There's no difference between earlier versions and this version with regard to speed.

Great news BlueCrab! I had no Idea you were a part of the Yabause team!

Do you plan to do any dreamcast specific optimizations?
More importantly, do you believe playable speed can be achieved on DC?

Yep. I'm actually maintainer of both the Dreamcast and Mac OS X versions of Yabause. The former, because I thought it would be a fun little port back in 2004. The latter, because I vastly improved it for a project in one of my university courses.

Sure, I plan on it. When, unfortunately, I have no idea. I've had very little time to work on things lately, and what time I've had has mostly gone into my PSO server. There actually was some interesting Dreamcast-specific code added to the Yabause repository before this release, but unfortunately, its not done, so its not actually compiled into the final release (hence why I didn't bother to mention it in the release notes).

I honestly doubt that it'll ever be anywhere close to full-speed. The PSX is a much simpler system (from my understanding), and the only way we got a fast PSX emulator was from a commercial venture where they could work on it "full-time". The Saturn is far too complex to expect much out of a Dreamcast emulator for it.
