Rage of the Streets Update

Post by Christuserloeser »

Gonna post about my progress with Rage of the Streets to get some attention for the new release that's expected to happen in a few weeks :)

This new release will feature the 100% overhauled original game with some nice little extras thrown in. All music, sounds and graphics will be noticable improved over the original release and also some OpenBoR features will be implemented.

For a later release we will be continuing to improve the original but also working on new game modes to be added featuring original SoR/BK stages.

Yes, the eyes have been fixed on all 80 cells :P so the eyes stay blue no matter what alt mapping's selected.

Of course I got much more work completed but for now that's all I'd like to share. ;)

Sweet! I liked the original Rage of the Streets a lot, is there any gameplay improvements over the last? or is this all graphical/sound?

Of course the gameplay will be improved as much as possible. ;)

Btw, which version did you play ? The original or v1.2 as featured in DCEvolution's BoR Collection Vol.2 ?

Nice work Christuserloeser. I really like the graphical improvements that you made to Rage of the Streets. Hopefully the gameplay will be improved similarly as much.

Me hopes too

Nah, seriously - as I already asked Tyne: Which RotS version is the one that the new release will be compared with gameplay wise ?
Certainly a lot has been done since RotS v1.2 from DCEvo's BoR Collection Vol.2 already, compared with the initial release of RotS however it's divided by worlds - imagine the gameplay more like BK2 than BK3. It's all about timing.

If you haven't tried RotS v1.2, you should get the BoR Collection Vol.2 if you don't have it already:

Info - http://www.dcevolution.net/goto.php?id=61
Download - http://www.dcevolution.net/cgi-bin/down ... on%202.rar

I promise to do my very best with improving the gameplay but really, it's mainly visuals where my current version of RotS is lacking right now. After finishing the music, voices and sound fx remastering, improving the enemies' AI and fixing/improving animations, I implemented some new moves just recently (e.g. running) along with accurate controls (thanks to OpenBoR!). Still there'll definitly be room for improvements on later versions (weapons, BK3/SoR3-special moves, etc.).

Yeah, will do. But I don't think weapons will make it into the next public release. Too much other fine tuning to do until I seriously start working on weapons....

Since I had to delay the next public release again (initially planned for 14th this month), I thought to post some screenies that I hadn't posted here yet:

I'll do my best to get a version compiled for a public release soon.

Yeah, I'll optimize it for 4 players - on Dreamcast!

Hm, remembers me to implement a software lock for attempting to play it on xBox :?

- Just kidding! I really don't care on which platform you'll play RotS but it'll be optimized for Dreamcast.

Looks nice! I can't wait to play it! Just one thing though...will you be adding weapons that you can pick up at all? It's such a rarity to see in mods for some reason. I've only played one BOR mod that allows you to pick up weapons, but it was great! Sorry, but I was just wondering...

The reason is that adding weapons requires a lot of work.

BILAL_XIA wrote:well great but is it possible to sharpen the sptites a bit?

No idea what you really mean as they are 1:1 the originals, but if you mean that I should use a blur filter like 2xSAI (as e.g. in the xBox version of OpenBoR), let me add that it's pretty possible to implement Bilinear filtering in the Dreamcast version of OpenBoR if you know how to code. However no one did it until now.

The difference between Bilinear filtering and 2xSAI (and similar filters) in 640x480 is barely noticably anyway. In 1024x768 it's big, but not in 640x480 where you definitly hardly can't tell the difference between 2xSAI and Interpolated - or the PowerVR-DC's Bilinear filtering.

Anyway, these screens are resized to 640x480 and thus do -NOT- look like the game will look on your TV in their native 320x240 resolution. Due to the scanlines of your TV the game will look fantastic even without a bilinear filter. :)

All that I'm asking for in this time around... Roo as a playable character! Even if he is a secret one.

Roo-ness was so fun in SOR3...

Re: Rage of the Streets Update

Post by Aluccard »

I'm just curious if there has been any update to this updated version. I play Rage of the Streets all the time and I've been waiting anxiously for the new version, but I haven't been seeing any updates lately.

It's not out yet, or is it? And if not, is there any word on when it might be released?
