Feeback on my first website.

My boss at work has recently bought a villa in Florida and asked me to build him a website for it.

The guidelines were as follows:

- Easy to navigate.
- Bright & colourful.
- Easy for people still on a dial up connection (so not too heavy on the images)

I'm waiting on more images and a quick time virtual tour thing, all that should be added in a week or so.

also note that this site is hand coded using text edit, and (as you can probably tell) I've basically taught myself everything.

For a space saver you could make the images 256(or whatever ammount of colours works the best) colour png. I also just tend to not like going to a website and having an ENTER THE WEBSITE HERE deal.
Besides that pretty nice. It just might look weird with the odd sized bars around the text. It looks well done though. Nice job matt!

What weird sized bars?

I had a problem with the borders when browsing in IE but i fixed that, What browser are you using?

I too cannot stand entrance pages. You could leave it as the main page if you like, just dont have it as an enter page. There's no real info on that entrance page anyway. I say just remove it.

To be honest i don't like it either, as well as that there a few things i would like to change but can't. The "client" is paying for it and wants them in there so my hands are tied t some degree.

i think its good. and fits what you wanted pretty good. its simple, clean, easy to navigate, and easy on the dialup users.

BTW - I like the bg color. It's not something you normally see, but it works well.

I used the bg color as to me it gives off a holiday kinda feel to it (it's sort of like a sea blue i guess), which is what website is all about.

Visually it's nice & clean; I like it.

But there are a couple issues: your HTML doesn't supply a doctype or a character encoding, and there're a couple of errors (beyond those) validating the page (I only tested home.html). If you're not familiar with the w3c's validator you can find it here: http://validator.w3.org/.

Also you really shouldn't be using tables for layout anymore. divs and CSS are the better way to do it -- they're a little harder to get the hang of, but they offer you more flexibility and, well, they're just the right way to do it.

For the splash page, the alt text for the logo really should be "Dawson Florida Villa", not "logo".

Sorry I'm a curmudgeon when it comes to design
